Calais Campbell. That guy is a beast, reminds me of T-Brack. He makes Brackens look small. 6ft., 8in., 290 lbs. Wow.

| JaGGWiRe(( (4/9/2008) Laws is not tall enuff to be a Nfl DE, JDR likes ends that can bat the ball down if they cant get to the QB. Once again, Groves is not a NFL DE he is to small, we have 2 DPRs we dont need another, i like Groves but his size keeps him from being a every down End.
Well, I guess it's a good thing Laws plays tackle....I love it people claim DE's are too small. Look at how big all the elite pass rushers are in the NFL. I bet it will hard to find them over 270lbs...
And jagabc, I don't see anything wrong with Laws being our No. 1 pick at 26. He's just as much value there as anyone else.

Now if we traded down and picked him I wouldn't be opposed to that move at all, but I highly doubt he will be the highest rated player on the Jags board at 26.

| | Campbell is the #1 choice for me, but unless a Jaguars staff wants to give me a treat ala Fred Taylor and John Hnderson as my favorite players going into the draft, I doubt it happens. |

| | wrong forum. i really like Laws. frankly I dont understand why any DT in this draft is considered leaps and bounds better than him. I can maybe understand liking Ellis a little more because he has more tackles behind the line of scrimmage/sacks. but he has played with a significantly better supporting cast around him. our first round pick may be a little bit of a reach. i think we could drop back about 10 spots and still get him.

| There was a method to this madness.
You see, we were doing a mock draft (no trades). Merling went to the Vikes at 17, Calais to the Titans. I don't like the idea of picking Quentin Groves because he's going to be a very good 3-4 OLB, a couple of the scouts I work with are nuts for what they think he can do in the right defense. Unfortunatly, that defense isn't the Jaguars. Frankly, we don't need another DPR.
So with the DE's looking thin, I went to my "big guys" rule, and narrowed it down to Jeff Otah, Trevor Laws, and Kentwan "em" Balmer. I agree completely that if we want Laws we have to trade down because he's gone by our second pick. So yes, I reached.
If you're interested, the entire mock draft is at "Mocking the Draft"
I don't make any claim of this being the ACTUAL pick, but given the way the mock played out, it felt right. Trevor would be a fantastic Jaguar.

You know that I like Laws a lot, but there will certainly be at least a few players available at #26 that hold more value. If we SNATCHED him in the top of round #2 in a trade-down, I'd be happy...especially if we were lucky enough to back that up with Lawrence Jackson with another #2 (likely trading up in the 2nd with one of our 3rd's).
