| The Mad Dog (4/8/2008)
jagabc6893 (4/8/2008) Del Rio kept saying "we're not done yet" at his media session during the owner's meeting. Something most be brewing. Jason Taylor straight up for our 2nd round pick on draft day??I still maintain that a 2nd rounder is too much for a 34 year old DE....I think a 3rd rounder would be more than fair compensation. I mean....hell, if Miami wants a 1st rounder or even a 2nd rounder in exchange for a 34 year old DE whose best days are behind him, then in comparison, the 2 first rounders (or 1st + a 3rd) in exchange for a 26 year old Jared Allen, starts to look that much more favorable. You keep bringing up this 1st and 3rd thing for Allen like its some sort of fact that its what it will take to get him. If you can show me one shread of proof that Allen can be had for that then I will campaign for him harder than anyone here. The problem is that you know you can't, but you also know that we can probably never prove for sure that he couldn't have been had for that so you will just assume he could have been to bash Shack.

| 1st and a 3rd?
I thought when a player was franchised the minimum that could be exchanged was 2 1st round picks.

| That's the standard compensation if a team signs a franchise player, and the team who franchised the player doesn't match the offer. It can be negotiated to something else if done in the form of a trade.

Thats the quote, unquote, textbook compensation....
however, the compensation can be negotiated between the 2 teams at less than the required 2 first rounders for franchised players.
Congratulations to the 2008 WORLD Champions, your Philadelphia Phillies!

| The Mad Dog (4/8/2008) I admit that is speculation on my part, but as it becomes clearer & clearer that Jared Allen is not going to re-sign long term with KC, and they face the real possibility of losing him & getting nothing in return next year, and not many other teams have the cap room & as dire need for a DE like the Jags do, that might put the Jags in the favorable position of getting Jared Allen for less than the textbook 2 first rounders for the franchised player.
Teams have negotiated this in past years and this year, too (GB's Corey Williams)
On the other hand, Chicago was offered a fairly high 1st round pick by the Redskins last year for Lance Briggs, a much less valuable player IMO, and turned it down.
