I think you have to look more at the contract itself and how it will play out over the next several years before you deem his extension "troublesome"

On the surface, 6/60 does look like it's high.

Looking closer, it's not so bad.

Pulling out the bonuses, it's around 7M per year - which is right in line with starter pay.

The up front bonus was relatively small, and the other bonuses are added to each year in likely roster bonuses or other likely to be earned bonuses.  Add all those bonuses together (the guaranteed and non-guaranteed money) and it's still 10M or so less than what Romo was guaranteed alone.  Romo was guaranteed 30, David only 9 guaranteed (plus around 9 more in likely to be earned yearly bonuses.)

It's a relatively flat deal that won't make us obligated to restructure it again later to be "cap friendly." It already is.  Also, the bonus wasn't so fat that if he unlikely event that he doesn't play it out then it wouldn't kill us to part ways.

It's a win, win.  David gets paid, and the team got a good contract.
