| Outstanding. He's our QB for the next 5 years. | | 20 | |
Very Good. He's earned this big contract. | | 26
Ok. He has only one year as starter and we may have paid too much. | | 18
Troublesome. Why pay him $60 million? | | 2
Terrible. The team's going to regret this for a long time. | | 2 | | | | | | | Posted Tuesday, April 08, 2008 7:10 AM

| If the guy even plays close to the level he played at last year for the next 3-4 years then he's totally worth double that.
That's a good deal for the Jags. I'm delighted as a fan and I'm delighted that Garrard is getting paid like an NFL starter.

| | I'd answer any of the top three, but heavily weighted towards the top two. I think you'd have to be insane to pick either of the bottom two. |

| rameyag (4/8/2008) I say troublesome. I think the team overpaid.I think you have to look more at the contract itself and how it will play out over the next several years before you deem his extension "troublesome"
Either write something worth reading, or do something worth writing.

| The Vindicator (4/8/2008) Ok. He has only one year as starter and we may have paid too much.
But... if you make him wait another year, and he had another year like last year, we'd wind up paying double what we paid him in this contract. So it's a chance we have to take.

| rameyag (4/8/2008) I say troublesome. I think the team overpaid. On the surface, 6/60 does look like it's high. Looking closer, it's not so bad. Pulling out the bonuses, it's around 7M per year - which is right in line with starter pay. The up front bonus was relatively small, and the other bonuses are added to each year in likely roster bonuses or other likely to be earned bonuses. Add all those bonuses together (the guaranteed and non-guaranteed money) and it's still 10M or so less than what Romo was guaranteed alone. Romo was guaranteed 30, David only 9 guaranteed (plus around 9 more in likely to be earned yearly bonuses.) It's a relatively flat deal that won't make us obligated to restructure it again later to be "cap friendly." It already is. Also, the bonus wasn't so fat that if he unlikely event that he doesn't play it out then it wouldn't kill us to part ways. It's a win, win. David gets paid, and the team got a good contract.
"I have to do a better job of throwing the ball downfield more when I have chances and not second-guess it. We just haven’t had the explosive plays like we had last year,” Garrard said. -10/10/08 The only defense against madness is the accord of your peers. | I said OK. I think they overpaid a bit. Like I've said previously, I would have waited a few games into the next season. Sure, you might have paid more but you'd at least be sure. It's not like the contract would have jumped up $20M.
However, I expect a lot more than 2500/18TD this upcoming season. He's now the 8th highest paid QB in the NFL averaging about $10M a year.
