| Del Rio has said on more than one occasion that the Jags want to improve the pass rush, but they will not "reach for need" in the first round. What if a player ranked pretty high falls to us at #26, but he is of a position we don't really need to upgrade. IMO, the below listed players who are at positions of "little or no need" may fall to us. Which of the following BAP would you most like for the Jags to draft?
RB Jonathan Stewart-- injury problems are causing his stock to drop. He just may be there at #26. Would the Jags pass on this guy? He has great potential and could replace Fred nicely one day. Teams in need of immediate help at RB may pass, but I would hope the Jags would not pass on this stud RB.
CB Aqib Talib-- if the Cowboys pass on him with their first pick, he could be available to the Jags. Would we draft a CB after signing Florence in the off season? Several quality CB's are needed to stop the Colts and Patriots, but this might be overkill unless Brian Williams really moves to Safety.
OT Gosder Cherilus-- just how true are the rumors that the Jags want to replace Kaliff Barnes. He seemed to play decent last year, but he has had too many off field issues. In addition, he will be a Free Agent next year anyway. I'm not sure Cherilus coud play left OT right away, but the Jags and Del Rio might think otherwise.
WR Devin Thomas-- yes a WR. This is the least likely position of little need we would draft, UNLESS Del Rio and his staff plan a total overhaul of the WR corps. Devin Thomas is being talked about as possibly the best all-round WR in the draft right now. If the Jags are serious about upgrading the WR, he would be a great addition. Of course this would mean Matt Jones leaving the team, hopefully in a trade scenario. Porter, Williams, Thomas, Northcutt, Walker---nice.
So which of these players would you guys most like to see the Jags draft if they fell to #26?Note: I didn't include Kenny Phillips or Kentwan Balmer because Safety and DT are positons "of need". Safety more than DT, IMO.

I don't really think Cherilus is that highly regarded and the same goes for Thomas.

| I think unless you get into a position were you can either get line support(either side of the ball) or if you can get your hands on a D. Jackson(cal). Then I say trade down and get a value pick. we tossed too much money around in the off-season to draft anyone in the first round who just isn't going to fit right away.
Id rather get to 2nds anyway. Its not a secret we like 2nd round picks.

So you would pass up Jonathan Stewart, trade down and get a DE later? Man, I might be mad if we passed on him. I think we actually have enough flexibility this year to go BAP in the first round if somebody like Stewart falls.

To me, even before the injury, he was way behind Mendenhall and McFadden. I think we draft Fred's replacement next year or the year after.

Why not grab Stewart to return kicks (save MJD's body) and groom for the future. What about any of those other guys I listed? Would you take any of them over a 4th or 5th rated DE in the first?

Out of those guys, I'd take Talib. As far as a 3rd running back, I agree that we should probably take one. I'm just not sold on throwing a lot of money at Stewart in the first, to be an heir apparent. I think we'll draft a replacement for Fred next year or the year after.

| | I think Cherilus would make the most sense I agree with what someone said about Taylor. It's too early to be looking for his replacement and with all the backs floating around the NFL I'm not sure his replacement will be drafted. I mean I'd rather have a poential free agent signing in a year or two say like Chester Taylor or Thomas Jones than drafting a RB at this point |

| | Not to sound like a Ketchman-ite here, but I think that this is the perfect scenario to ask yourself: "Who is the better player?" Out of that list, I think that Stewart is the best option.
Go heavy early.
You do not maintain perfection, you work for it everyday.
