There is a legitimate anger in black America. A legitimate anger that even millions of dollars in football contracts cannot fix. Khalif Barnes and Brian Williams are afterall, products of the society and culture from which they came. Only the best educated blacks are devoid of this anger even though, like Obama, they understand it and in many ways sympathize with the angry blacks. I am not advocating for blacks here, mind you. I am only trying to put this conversation in proper perspective. Not all whites are responsible for the environmental problems that have led to black underachievement. But we need to honestly address it for the good of our great country. And when things like this Brian Wiliams stuff happens, we need to put it in proper context to elevate the discourse and actually make a difference. Hate, anger, denial, will not solve the problem. We are all one people, one nation, pleging allegiance to our great country. For all its flaws, we still live in the world's greatest nation.

I love it ,when Black Americans display racists behavior, it is righteous anger. When White Americans display racists behavior they're just racists. By the way, I hate cavemen.

Hmm... a guy says some funny, some derogatory things after he's been drinking.

Who would ever have imagined that could happen?

Yup, the dumbest move of all was trying to fight the charge.  Pay the $2500 and make it disappear.

A lot of folks have a problem with race and don't even realize it.  Alcohol can only make it worse/draw it out no matter how subliminal it may normally reside inside someone.  Those who deny they have a problem with it are saddest of all, and are afraid to face their fears and aren't brave enough to overcome their xenophobia.

Agreed, that's the real question. Why fight a $2,500 fine and make all of this public.

Yeah, some of that was pretty funny, but some of it crossed the line as well, no matter how bombed he was.

That would have been his bond, not his fine.

Here's what he faced for a 1st time DUI:

The fine and court costs are $652.00.

6 month Probation to complete DUI school (12 hour course), Victim Impact Panel (a one time deal put on by MADD), 6 M driver's licence suspension, 10 day vehicle impound, 50 hours of community service (or he could pay it off at $10 per hour if the Judge allowed it), and report to probation monthly.

The reason he withdrew his plea was that he probably didn't get that he could bond out as opposed to just accepting the State offer outlined above.

Perhaps it would help to actually check the definition of the word, Racism, before  opining on the topic. Not all racially charged comments are racist. Racism in its truest definition is a feeling of superiority of ones race over another race. I don't think Brian Williams, by his comments, was suggesting that blacks were superior to whites. While Williams' comments were absolutely ic, it suggests quite the opposite. It suggests, implicitly and explicitly, that he believes he is a VICTIM of racist cops. He is a victim of cops that singled him out because of their feeling of racial superiority towards him.

Despite my earlier comments, there is some legitimacy to this opinion, so i apologize for my earlier comment. My goal here is not to offer my personal diagnosis of why this particular situation exists. My goal is to actually articulate the precise nature of the problem so that any discussion of it will be placed in the proper context. What chance do you think a baby born today to crack addicted black parents living in the projects, has of being a succesful member of our society? It's a culture. It's environmental. Most of these blacks already lost the game before it even started. There is a culture of poverty that exists in the black community. This culture is collective and deepening. I'm not saying whites are singularly responsible for it. I am saying it exists and we should discuss it honestly.

Roca not to get into a racial discussion on a sports message board but doesn't the african american community need to also point the finger at themselves?  While I agree with you on continued discrimination, to simply keep beating your chest and blaming everyone else is simply not credible.  Many different groups came to this country in less than positive cirumstances (ex Chinese to build the railroad, slaves in everything but name or the irish during the potato famine)  But each of these groups overcame the  barricades, including racisim, in their way to a better life through hard work and perseverence.

So for me while I will keep opposing racisim in all of its forms I will side with the likes of Bill Cosby or the Judge in Atlanta who feel that their own community needs to take ownership and "rise" above all obstructions that are holding them back.
