Here's how I rate the Jags' possible picks for each round. I realize some players are just wishful thinking, esp. in the first round. How would you rate these players in terms of a good fit for the Jags? Any additions or subtractions?

Round 1
1. Phillip Merling - DE/Clemson (slight possibility if Minnesota passes)
2. Jeff Otah - OT/Pittsburgh (not likely to fall)
3. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie - CB/Tenn. State (ditto)
4. Calais Campbell/DE - Miami (boom or bust)
5. Aqib Talib - CB/Kansas (solid pick)

Round 2
1. Atoine Cason - CB/Arizona (doubles as kick returner)
2. Pat Sims - DT/Auburn (penetrating tackle, ala Gary Walker)
3. Duane Brown - OT/Virginia Tech (converted tight end; room to grow)
4. Carl Nicks - OT/Nebraska (lots of talent and size; bad character)
5. Darrell Robertson - DE/Georgia Tech (designated pass rusher)

Round 3
1. Red Bryant - DT/Texas A&M (quite possibly best run stuffer in draft)
2. Josh Johnson - QB/San Diego (similar to Garrard when he was drafted)
3. Chilo Rachal - OG/USC (another power guard project, like Nwaneri)
4. Kendall Langford - DT/Hampton (raw potential)
5. John Carlson - TE/Notre Dame (all-around TE)

keep in mind we have two 3rd round picks.

ya know, i find it very difficult to figure out what this team will go after in the first couple rounds.  coughlin was more predictable.

reggie nelson was obvious.  marcedes lewis you kinda suspected.  but i didnt see matt jones or reggie williams coming.  MJD, Durant, Mathis, Smith, Jones?  nope.  Barnes was the only one you thought was obvious in the 2nd since he was being listed as one of our potential first rounders.

As of right now, im thinking we go DE, DT, OG, OT in the 1st... but who knows!?  so list all the potential players from those positions that have a possibility of falling to us.

Calais Campbell - he has been discussed much
Phillip Merling - kinda unknown where he will fall due to sports hernia.  prior to that injury coming out i woulda said no chance he falls to us
Lawrence Jackson - i think he is a reach here.  99% chance he is there
Kentwan Balmer - 60% chance he is there.  i think he is overrated though
Trevor Laws - 99% chance he is there.  probably too high to draft him but i really like him as a player.  i wouldnt be too upset if we reached a little.
Pat Sims - same as Laws but I dont like him as much
Branden Albert - 10% chance he is available.  best interior lineman.  could play OT.  most mocks i see have him going within the 5-10 picks in front of us.
Jeff Otah - 33% chance he is available.  i keep seeing him vary a lot in mocks.
Gosder Cherilus - 75% chance he is there.  i keep reading how he excelled as a RT but struggled some at LT.  not sure thats what we are looking for.
Sam Baker - 99% chance he is available.  think he is a reach... most have him going in the same area as jackson, sims, and laws.

You're right that the Jags are unpredictable in the draft. I would be kind of upset if they went with Cherilus or Sam Baker, given that they already forked out good money for a decent right tackle, Pashos, last year. Plus, Mo Williams can slide over there in a pinch if he goes down. If they take a tackle that high, he needs to be able to develop into a replacement for Barnes. I agree with you that Balmer is overrated.

My two cents:

Round 1: Remove the CB's and add Safety Kenny Phillips.  Sensabaugh and his shoulders worry me.  Plus we have no depth at Safety since Sammy Knight left.  Another longshot possibility is DT Kentwan Balmer, even though I hope we don't take a DT in the first round.  The rest on your list are good possibles for rnd 1.

Round 2:  Cason, Nicks and Sims should be long gone before #58.  Round 2 is too high for Robertson and Brown.   My possible choices for round 2 would be:  DT Red Bryant, S DuJuan Morgan,  OT Anthony Collins, WR Earl Bennett (yes a WR.  I think we are going to totally make over WR corps).  I wonder if the 2nd round would be too high for DE Jason Jones if we don't go DE in the 1st?

Round 3: I like all of your choices except QB Josh Johnson.  I think I would add   DE Jeremy Thompson and DE Brian Johnston (if we don't go DE in 1st or 2nd).  They both seem to be moving up the boards.  I like a big TE like Kellen Lewis or Carlson with the 2nd pick in the 3rd round too.

we where unprdictable last year before that it was pretty predictable lol.

I like you round 1 choices Don't know much about the OT you named. Dont know anything about the 2nd round guys either. I just keep hearing Philip Merling and Campbell. I like Talib and think we are not done addressing the secondary. Can't wait till draft day!

just a fan, I cheer the good and boo the bad.
