Alfie (3/26/2008) Chris Long is probably the safest pick in the draft. He's not going to post double digit sacks every year, but he will be a good played for like 10 years in the NFL, especially in a 3-4 scheme.
Why do you like him better in a 3-4 than a 4-3? Or do you just think the team that drafts him will be using that?
I fully expect Miami to select him and play him at DE in Parcells 3-4. He'd be a very solid 4-3 DE, but he's not overly fast/athletic however, I think he's better suited in a 3-4.
That being said, I'd love for him to be on our roster in the 4-3.

| If the Jags draft a WR in any round that is not far and away the best available player I am going to throw my chair through my t.v.

Alfie (3/25/2008)
Project_2501 (3/25/2008) Am I the only person that thinks Long isn't gonna work at the next level?
Which one?
I think both are going to be monsters.
Chris Long is perfect for a Parcells defense.
Chris is the one I was talking about.
Why? Just curious.
Quite frankly, I haven't been paying as much attention to the draft this year, but when I see him play he seems like he is BARELY in control of his body. It looks as though he is often almost falling over sometimes, and thats just to get past the people in college. And, I would think having Howie as a dad that he had already had an IMMENSE amount of coaching or extra technique practice and information that the other guys don't have, effectively "lowing his ceiling" because he would already have some of the knowledge that the other guys are going to get when they are in the pros. But mainly I'm just not too impressed when I see him make plays, and as uneducated as they are, I'm going to go by what my eyes tell me.
Of course, he does seem like a worker, and if he is a worker he could come into the league, be a disappointment at first, then work his way into being a great player.
Thanks. This question may come across as being very nieve, but I wonder if the name/pedigree has helped him out overall.
Probably not, because teams and scouts can't be that blind, but maybe some?
I doubt teams would fall into that trap, but I wouldn't put it past the media or fans. Of course I haven't even watched all of his games, so if I was anyone else I wouldn't put much stock in what I say about him, lol.

| | I've seen some sports writers/ analysts predicting Atlanta will draft Dorsey thrid pick if he's there to replace Coleman, which kind of makes sense especially since Smith was a defensive coordinator. I think the first few picks might really get diced up. From what I've read most people have Long, Long and Dorsey going in the first three slots, except for people who think Atlanta will draft Ryan. Question is who will pick who. I mean would anybody blame Miami if they draft Dorsey or Jake Long ahead of Chris Long? Doubt it.
I'm also thinking KC and Chicago will draft OL first round. The reason Johnson and Benson look awful is blocking in my opinion. There looks to be alot of highly touted OL in the draft and I can't see the logic behind them drafting a QB and a RB first round when they have players who could get the job done if they could get past the line of scrimmage. I'm also thinking Baltimore will draft a WR first round if they can find room to fit him in their salary cap. They need a big play WR to bolster their pass game and unless they signed a FA I haven't heard about I think they'll go after DeSean Jackson or Andre Caldwell first round unless they have a sleeper pick lying around rounds 2-4. |
