| | I for one, would love to see Phillip Merling fall to the Jags selection, but I don't think it happens. |

| | Have you seen this about Tony Hills? Negatives: Had a career-threatening knee injury in high school that resulted in nerve damage and needed minor surgery later to clean out debris...Coupled with his left leg (fibula) fracture late in 2007, further medical evaluation will be needed to get him a clean bill of health...Not explosive coming out of his stance and while he is a good position-type blocker, he lacks pop behind his hand punch...Might be a better fit inside at guard, as he's a bit of a waist bender with some stiffness in his hips that causes him to struggle vs. movement at times...Has to become more aggressive shooting his hands with force, as his punch won't shock or jolt an oncoming defender...Plays at a even keel tempo, but you would like to see a more "nasty" nature from a left tackle...Gets good hand placement, but must lock on, grab and drag down defenders with better intent (seems to be going through the motions at times)...When he gets too erect in his stance, bull rushers have had success pushing him back into the pocket and he needs to hunker down and anchor better (base gets narrow)...Likes to grab his opponent a lot, but needs to be more discrete when doing so to prevent costly penalties...Not the quickest in recognizing defensive schemes and will be late off the X's...Has problems moving laterally to handle the edge rushers and needs to be more forceful shooting his hands on reach blocks...Can handle the short pull, but his timed speed fails to translate when he has to move to the second level (looks sluggish moving long distances)...Better working in-line and must do a better job of staying square in his kick slide, as defenders have had success getting past him with good club moves on his outside shoulder...Must stay with his blocks longer moving upfield and has to take better angles when looking for second-level targets to hit. I have to say that the nerve damage is troublesome to me since it is not something that is repaired by surgery. He will always have trouble with that knee.

| Stigma, with all of the talk of the Jags still not being satisfied with their secondary, you don't have the Jags taking a DB in your mock. Don't you feel that there needs to be a safety or cb drafted for developmental purposes?
Also, I really like the idea of bringing in a guy to compete the PR/KR job, as Northcutt wasn't spectacular, and MJD needs to have a larger role in the offense. With Williamson and Dexter Jackson, it'd make a very good camp competition.

Interesting point. Although I don't plan on doing a mock draft, if I were to try and pinpoint the moves that Del Rio and co will make on draft day, I'd bet that they will target a DB in the draft, possibly early with all the talent at the DB position. Someone that offers PR/KR skills would be a plus, and they could learn in the nickel role, or compete with Florence for the starting spot. This would allow Williams to move to safety as everyone is suggesting.
I'm really intrigued as to what they plan on doing with Sensabaugh. He was nearly given the starting spot last year when Darius was cut, but maybe they never saw him as a long term fixture at the position.

| | I have no inside information on what the Jags plan to do in the draft to address the Safety position. My guess is that Gerald Sensabaugh will start at Free Safety for the Jags. It is possible they could do just about anything and no one, not even the front office personnell know what that something might be, so your guess is as good as anyone else's. |

| | As the days fly by heading to the draft, it is time for another wild and wooly prognistication, so without further adieu. Rd 1(26): Brian Brohm - QB - Louisville - 6'3" 230 lbs 4.81/40 I am projecting here that the Jags do not re-sign David Garrard to a long term contract prior to the draft. The Jags having to protect themselves decide to pull the trigger on drafting a QB in Rd 1 that just happens to be the Best Available Player on the Draft Board. This selection gives the Jags some strength in their negotiations with David over the total value and length of his contract. TRADE: Jags trade Pick 58 (Rd 2) and Pick 89 (Rd 3) to the Bengals in exchange for Pick 46 (Rd 2) Plus Pick 168 (Rd 6). Rd 2(46): Sam Baker - OLT - USC - 6'5" 309 lbs 5.09/40 Jags select their OLT allowing them to move Khalif Barnes in trade. Rd 3(71): Red Bryant - DT - Texas A&M - 6'4" 318 lbs 5.00/40 Jags draft a DT to replace Marcus Stroud in the DT rotation. Bryant will compete with Kennedy to be that stout DT that stops the run forcing 3rd and long passing situations which allow the Jags to implement their blitz packages under Grteg Williams. TRADE: Jags trade Khalif Barnes to the Dolphins in exchange for Jason Taylor - DE. Jason Taylor will move ahead of Reggie Hayward at the RDE position. TRADE: Jags trade Mike Peterson to the Lions in exchange for Pick 107 in Rd 4. The Jags are now off the hook for 4.7 Mil in remuneration to Peterson for the 2008 season. Rd 4(107): Jermichael Finley - TE - Texas - 6'5" 245 lbs 4.66/40 Jags draft an 2nd TE that will pair with Marcedes Lewis in the 2 TE sets that the Jags intend to utilize more often in 2008. Rd 4(121): Dexter Jackson - PR/WR - App. St. 5'10" 182 lbs 4.33/40 Jags move to replace Dennis Northcutt as the team's primary punt returner. Northcutt will be evaluated strictly as a slot WR and could be traded during training camp for a 2009 draft pick. TRADE: Jags trade Matt Jones to the Cowboys for Marcus Spears - DE. Spears will be the primary backup to Paul Spicer. Rd 5(139): Gary Guyton - OLB - Ga. Tech - 6'2" 245 lbs 4.47/40 Jags draft a SLB that will backup Clint Ingram and be used in their blitz package. Guyton had 5 sacks as a senior. Rd 5(150): Drew Radovich - OT/OG - USC - 6'5" 301 Lbs 5.33/40 Jags draft a utility Olineman that will backup Vince Manuwai at the OLG spot. Radovich's experience at the OLT position in relief of Sam Baker at USC during the 2007 season will provide the Jags with a backup at the OLT spot. TRADE: Jags trade Pick 151 to the Chiefs in exchange for Greg Wesley - SS PLUS Pick 192 in Rd 7. Greg Wesley will compete with Gerald Sensabaugh at the SS spot. Rd 6(168): Jack Ikegwuonu - CB - Wisconsin - 5'10" 194 lbs 4.44/40 Jags take a chance on an injured player that will most likely be placed on the IR for the 2008 season while he comes back from an ACL injury. If he can regain his former skillset, the Jags may have stolen a high Rd 2 type player. The Jags have exhibited interest in CBs in the scouting process, so this addresses that position as a Jar on the Shelf. Rd 7(192): Marcel Reese - FB - Washington - 6'0" 230 lbs 4.42/40 Jags draft an H-Back/FB that will compete for the 5th RB spot on the roster and will be used on 3rd down packages as an extra TE out of the backfield. He could also be used on special teams with his speed and size. |

Sensabaugh start at FREE Safety? I thought we had a guy named Reggie Nelson playing FS? What did you mean by this Stigma?
