| | My stepmother has been diagnosed with colon cancer a few months back and she's basically had to undergo a lot of treatment and chemo. If you do undergo chemo then most of the affects will hit you a month or so afterwards just note that during the process you tend to be extremely tired and sleep alot. I would hope that you have some reserve funds to help alleviate the pressure of bills and/or in a situation where you aren't hurting for money as depending on how minor or major it is, you could potentially be down and out for a bit. It's a physical battle yes but mainly it is a mental battle that could test you to your limits. You need to decide NOW 02 whether or not you wanna beat this thing. "I am gonna try to beat this" isn't what I wanna hear either but rather "I WILL beat this". Make sure you inform your family and friends so that they can provide full support. My prayers aren't out to ya buddy because honestly I know myself you will get past this and it being just a minor detail in one chapter of your life. So you tell that doctor you are ready to get this bad boy out of ya and ready to get past it so that you can enjoy life. These type ordeal always makes me sit back and realize that we take advantage of so many things in life as a society. Some folks don't talk to their family members for months at a time. I found out 3 months after she was diagnosed that my sister had muscular sclerosis due to the fact that we were "too busy" to take time each week to call or stop by and say hello. The night before my father was taken from me a few years back he left me a message which wasn't something he did and said "Everything's fine" and when I tried to call him back he was busy calling someone else. Strangely he didn't get in touch with anybody that night and the next day he passed on due to an aneurysm. Ever since then I have always said I need to ensure to keep close contact with the rest of my family and friends yet I still don't. Folks make sure that you try to take time each week and just say hey to ya folks. Make sure you know that they are in good health and spirits and that ya love em. I know that this really has strayed way of the subject of what Jags02 originally brought up but I just tend to get a lil reflective in my ways. Jags02 buddy myself along with I am sure most folks on this board are completely supportive of you and know you will make it out buddy.

My prayers aren't out to ya buddy because honestly I know myself you will get past this and it being just a minor detail in one chapter of your life. So you tell that doctor you are ready to get this bad boy out of ya and ready to get past it so that you can enjoy life. I've been keeping as positive an attitude as I can about this, and I know I'll beat this, but at the same time it's a little scary. I visited with the surgeon yesterday for a consultation, and he said they're going to make a 7" long incision. Just thinking about how big of a slice their going to put in my back makes me cringe. They then use radioactive dye and a geiger counter to track where it might have spread if it did, and they'll take out a few lymphnoids in the area to get tested. He did say they most likely already removed it all, and that this surgery is more like a clean-up surgery, but I keep thinking that a clean-up surgery shouldn't require a 7" gash. We haven't scheduled a date yet, but it'll be at least three weeks from today. I don't want to get too much into my finances, but that part does scare me as well. I've used up all my sick and vacation pay at work, so I really can't afford to miss time. Fortuantely, I've approached the president of my company about this, and he said they can "front me hours" if need be. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but it sounds like they'll work with me. The surgeon also told me that the chemo used should it come down to that is nowhere near as severe as the kind they use for cancer on internal organs. He said at worst I'd feel like I have a bad flu for a long period of time. As for my family, I contacted them all immediately. It took me a while to reach my dad who happened to be in Abu Dhabi at the time, but they all know. I even have three aunts that are giving me a great deal of help. Two of them have had cancer themselves, and the third is a nurse.

| | That's good courage-check support-check employer working with you-check If you are able to work then i suggest doing what you can when you can really. I know how tough times can be. Speaking of which I spoke to my step mother last night and it looks as though she got cleared and all the cancer was removed. And she in fact had to have the nasty chemo. Fronting you hours sounds like maybe they pay you so much in advance and when you DO get to work you are basically working for free? I don't know but that doesn't sound too encouraging but take what ya can I guess.
