Jags02, let's hope you get a favorable report. But if the prognosis is not good, consider all your options.

Chemotherapy is a way of poisoning you just enough so the cancer cells die but you manage to survive. It's not pleasant. There are some newer techniques that use lasers to eradicate melanoma and breast cancer tumors. You might want to check into this before committing to chemo.

I believe the procedure is called "Light Induced Enhanced Selective Hyperthermia". Good luck to you, sir.

I'm on this board so much I think of many of you as a family. To that end, I feel you should know what's going on with me. I had an unexpected phonecall by my doctor yesterday telling me and my wife he wanted to see us this morning. When we got there, we learned that I have skin cancer. Not just skin cancer, but the worst kind...melenoma. I'm still trying to take in what precisely this means, but it sounds a bit scary. I'm hoping they'll be able to just remove it and that will be that, but who knows. I may need chemo, but I really hope it doesn't come down to that. I think they caught it before it spread, but I had the mole they found it in for a couple years. To make what could be a longer story short, I can use your prayers and advice/thoughts.Has anyone else had melanoma that can share their experience?

I was sorry to read about the bad news you got. You'll be in my thoughts as you find out more and move forward with whatever else may come. I've heard melanoma is the most common form of cancer and one of the more curable kinds if caught early. I wish I knew more or could offer more info.

I'll have to look into that. I'm not looking forward to the possibility of chemotherapy. From the sound of it, it's painful as hell, and I really don't want to risk losing any hair.

BTW, its now sounding like my visit on Monday will just be a consultation visit with the surgeon. But I know they want to act fast, so the surgery to see if it's spread to the lymphnoids should be soon after. I've been advised to suggest Friday as the date if possible in order to not miss work. A nurse has told me that I shouldn't need a hospital stay overnight, but that I won't want to work for the next couple of days after the surgery.

This is the best news I've heard yet. I've also heard that they tend to stay dormant the longest, which is why they think they caught it in time. That said, it's also a highly genetic condition which has me wondering about my siblings and parents.

Jags02,   my thoughts and prayers are certainly with you and your family.

I just want you to know that your efforts on this MB are greatly appreciated.    Even more importantly,    the way you have reached out to me and others during very difficult times in our lives is something that will always be appreciated more than words can describe.    I'm looking forward to hearing great news from you in the coming days.

02, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

We do tend to forget about the real world here on the board.  But, those of us that have been here for several  years are kind of like an extended family.

Thanks for sharing, and thanks for all that you do on this board.  Know that you have the support of the group here.  Keep us posted on your situation.
