| | I thought that it would be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to all of our Mock Drafts to see how they will change and evolve as we get closer and closer to Draft Day. I thought that if we all posted our Mocks in one place, it would be easier to compare, contrast, and tell Maize N Blue how far off he is. Here is my original Mock dated 2/7/2008: Round 1 Calais Campbell - DL DE A seriously big body DE (6’ 8”, 280) that has phenomenal quickness for a man his size, think John Henderson with Reggie Hayward type abilities. Campbell locks down the LDE spot for the next 6-8 years providing a pass rush, and another big body to hold the Line Of Scrimmage. Round 2 Darrell Robertson - DL DE/OLB Hybrid Robertson has been compared to Miami’s Jason Taylor in that he is a tall, lean DE (6’ 4”, 247) that teams always think they can run against. There’s only one problem, he has the quickness and skill set to stymie the run as well as a posted sub 4.8 40 time, and he has room to grow. Over his college career, he has added 40 pounds to his frame, with 25 coming in one off-season. Also, out of 101 running plays to his side, the opposition gained 33 yards and one first down. This might be the edge player that puts this Defense over the top. Round 3 Terrell Thomas - DB CB/FS Hybrid Thomas is generally thought of as the premier player in the USC Defensive Backfield and has the build (6’ 1”, 197) that allowed him to put in time as both a CB and FS. He is a shutdown Cornerback that has 4 years of experience playing in the pass-happy PAC 10. His 40 times aren’t exactly what you want them to be, but this is what lets him slip into the Third. This guy, along with Florence, allows the team to have better matchups in their Nickle packages. Round 4 Tom Zbikowski -DB FS/SS A tough guy who has some agility to him, he will add yet another nasty disposition towards Offensive Players to the Defense. He is faster than you might think and has a good run-support ability. Don’t think that just because he played for Notre Dame that he is soft, he boxed in Golden Gloves since he was 9 and has gone 60-13 over his career. If he is drafted, I fully expect him to take Sammy Knights place by the end of the season. Round 5 Dexter Jackson - WR/KR Appalachian State’s most dynamic player brings an element of speed to the team that we might not have seen since Tavian Banks ripped his leg off below the knee. A truly unique player that may never start in the NFL, but he will represent the threat of game-changing speed whenever he is on the field. It may take him a year or two to adjust to the big time, but I think that his upside is worth it. Round 5 C. Rinehart - OL OG Big time guy from a Small time school, Rinehart has the size (6’5” 308) that is just perfect to sit on the bench for a year. Repeat after me, “You can never have enough big guys.” Round 6 Corey Lynch - DB FS/SS Lynch posted superior performance numbers at Appalachian State producing 24 INT’s, 52 Passes Defensed, and 6 blocked kicks. This is Nick Sorensen with ability. He will probably start on ST’s, then I expect him to eventually work his way into the Defensive Back rotation. And here is my latest Mock. 1 Quentin Groves, DE, 6-3, 259 Probably has the best first step in the draft among DE’s and OLB’s. Is undersized and had injuries in his senior year which turned me off of him, but the more that I see of him, the more that I like. Is this the T. Suggs that Jack wanted in ’03? 2 Joe Flacco, QB, 6-7, 236 Big armed guy from a small school with a classic release and no polish. Don’t think heavy feet when you see him because he is very athletic, but he really has a lot to learn. Spent wayyy too much time in the Shotgun in college and needs to learn how to come out from under Center. The QB of the future. (I know that this is a pipe dream here, but you have your mock draft and I have mine.) 3 Kendall Langford, DE-DT, 6-6, 287 Another small school guy that is the eventual replacement for Rob Meier. Can play inside and out and can stack the line. Will take some time to develop into NFL caliber, but he has the size and speed that is hard to come by. 4 Justin King, CB, 5-11, 192 Speed freak with all of the cover ability in the world, just needs to develop more. He may take a while until he is ready to go, but he has amazing upside. 5a Dexter Jackson, WR, 5-10, 182 My favorite player in the draft. Appalachian State’s most dynamic player brings an element of speed to the team that we might not have seen since Tavian Banks. A truly unique player that may never start in the NFL, but he will represent the threat of game-changing speed whenever he is on the field. It may take him a year or two to adjust to the big time, but I think that his upside is worth it. 5b Carlton Powell, DT, 6-2, 292 Run stuffer in the middle that was a key component to Xavier Adibi’s Senior year. Widebody guy that takes up space and has some quicks to him. This is Grady Jackson 14 years ago. 6 Traded to Minnesota for Troy Williamson 7 Corey Lynch, FS, 6-1, 204 Posted superior performance numbers at Appalachian State producing 24 INT’s, 52 Passes Defensed, and 6 blocked kicks. This is Nick Sorensen with ability. He will probably start on ST’s, then I expect him to eventually work his way into the Defensive Back rotation.
Go heavy early.
You do not maintain perfection, you work for it everyday.

| | Here's my First from 2008: Jaguars Mock draft 1/2/2008 1) Vernon Gholston, DE, OSU 6’4 258lbs. 4.6/40 DOB 6/5/86 2) Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas 6’2 202lbs. 4.5/40 DOB 2/13/86 3) Tom Zbikowski, SS, ND 5’11 210lbs. 4.5/40 DOB 5/2/85 4) Eddie Royal, WR, VT 5’10 184lbs. 4.3/40 DOB 5/21/86 5) Darnell Terrell, CB, MO 6’2 200lbs. 4.4/40 DOB 5/30/84 6) King Dunlap, OT, Auburn 6’8 312lbs. 5.0/40 DOB 9/19/85 7) Chauncey Washington, RB, USC 6’0 223lbs. 4.5/40 DOB 4/29/85 My current, including the Williamson trade. I'm not sure exactly what the deal is on the extra 5th in the Pearman deal, but I added it.: Jaguars Mock draft 2/27/2008 – including extra 5th 1) Calais Campbell, DE Miami 6’8” 290lbs. 5.03/40 – Bigger than prototype size and good athleticism. Vanished at times this past season. Was considered a top 10 pick after his Sophomore season. I believe his Pro Day will be a better indicator of his overall athleticism. 2) Tracy Porter, CB Indiana 5’11” 188lbs. 4.37/40 – CB with the speed and awareness to play in man coverage and the willingness to support the run while playing zone. Big play corner with brutal speed. Could fill out his frame another 10 lbs. +/- 3) Dre Moore, DT Maryland 6’4” 305lbs. 4.88/40 – Rough around the edges DT with elite athleticism. Built more like a DE than a DT, but has a good base and strength to rival most DT’s in this draft class. With more polish, he’d be a late First Rounder, IMO. 4) Craig Stevens, TE California 6’3” 254lbs. 4.59/40 – Athletic TE with good hands, very good strength and good blocking technique. Gives us a more athletic version of George Wrighster with more strength and better health. Given the OC’s TE-Heavy system, a capable 3rd TE is key in both the running and passing game. Has the flexibility to be lined up in the backfield as well as the speed to line up outside. More of a short-intermmediate route runner, which would compliment Lewis and Estandia nicely. Good option in the flat, as he does have good quickness and the willingness to fight for extra yardage. 5) Darnell Terrell, CB/FS Mizzou 6’2” 203lbs. 4.5/40 – Very athletic CB with good size and athleticism. Terrell was a JUCO All-America while at Coffeyville JC. Played with Reggie Nelson while at Coffeyville. Possible FS. 5) Kevin O’Connell, QB laceName>San DiegolaceName> laceType>StatelaceType> 6’5” 225lbs. 4.61/40 – It’s looking more and more like QG won’t be on this roster next season. This guy is a developmental prospect with big upside. Good arm with good athleticism. Not what you’d call a polished QB, but has all the physical tools and prototype size. Definitely on the rise after showing well at the combine. A season with Mike Shula will make O’Connell a very solid QB…sooner rather than later. 6) To Minnesota 7) Rudolph Hardie, DE/OLB Howard 6’3” 270lbs. 4.77/40 - Productive DE that may have the athleticism required to play OLB in a 3-4. Reminds me a lot of LaMarr Woodley, from what little I've seen of him. Had 11 sacks and -get this- 24.5 TFL's. Looked very good at the Texas v. Nation game.

| | Jags Mock: 02-28-08, Pre-Free Agency Notes: This mock is made guessing the Jags pick up a SS, DT and back up QB in FA. Also that Mo Williams and Ernest Wilford leave in FA. 1. OG Branden Albert, Virginia, 6'7", 315 --Huge OG replaces Naeole at starting OG, Jags run right all year with Pashos and Albert mauling defenders, BAP 2. DE Chris Ellis, Virginia Tech,6'5", 260 --Jags wait till 2nd round to get DE, he may be gone at this pick, alternate DE Jason Jones 3. RB Matt Forte, Tulane, 6'2", 225, 4.46 ---Future replacement for Fred Taylor, can be great special teamer until Taylor leaves after 2008 or 2009 4. CB Chevis Jackson, LSU, 6'0", 190---Underrated due to his lack of blazing 40 time, could be immediate starter at nickel 5. WR Kevin Robinson, Utah State--- A sleeper who falls through the cracks, could be a useful return man and special teamer at first 6. Traded to Minnesota 7. DE Louis Holmes, Arizona, 6'5", 265----Jags grab one more DE who is very raw, but has great potential and physical skills

| 1. Jacksonville- Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC : The Jaguars will be looking to add a big time pass rusher in the draft as franchising Bobby McCray last season just didn't work out. Jackson is a prototypical 4-3 DE, that has ideal size and has been consistent over his college career and he improved his all around game this season. He stood out at the Senior Bowl along with teammate, Sedrick Ellis and should make the transition to be a double digit sack guy in the NFL. He has incredible upside and could be a steal, this late in round 1. I think he and Jason Jones could be the surprise of the DE prospects. 2. Jacksonville- Tyvon Branch, CB, U. Conn: Jacksonville has 2 very good starting CB's, but basically have nothing behind them. They need to find a taller CB with speed who can cover one on one. Branch has decent size, great speed and helped the Huskies get to their biggest bowl game in school history. He blew scouts away with his 4.29/40 speed at the Combine and should immediately take over at the Nickle spot. 3. Jacksonville- John Greco, OT, Toledo: The Jags would like to take advantage of the tremendous depth at OT in this draft. Khalif Barnes has had an up and down season and has had problems with the law as well. They will also be losing top backup OT Mo Williams and Greco could be the guy to groom for the LT spot. He is a mauler with a mean streak who has a great motor, but played at a smaller college and may take a while to catch onto the pro game. He has experience playing both right and left tackle which should increase his value. 4. Jacksonville- John David Booty, QB, USC: The Jaguars need to find a young, developmental QB since the team is pencil thin when it comes to depth at the QB position. Booty is a talented QB with an accurate arm, but is a little raw and will need time to adjust to the pro game. He doesn't have the strongest arm and he needs to make better reads, but that should come in time. 5. Jacksonville (Via Seattle)- William Franklin, WR, Missouri: Franklin is a guy who quietly put together a very good season for the Tigers and became there big play WR. He has decent size, good hands and blazing speed. I think he has a very high ceiling and his added speed to the WR corps would be very welcome. If nothing else, he would be a tremendous asset to the special teams. 5. Jacksonville- Chris Horton, S, UCLA: Horton is a tremendous Strong Safety who played for one of the better defensive units in the NCAA. Unfortunately for the Bruins, their problem was scoring points. Horton is a hard hitter and takes decent angles. He has decent size and speed and a tremendous upside. He could compete for a starting spot. |

| | Okay, now that FA is over, the first part at least, and we are flush with all of these draft picks, I wanted to update my Mock. Post yours as well if you want yours kept in the vault for future taunting. 1 Lawrence Jackson DE 6-4, 270 At first I wasn’t too high on this guy, but the more that I think about it, I like it. When I look at Lo-Jack, I think ‘Cadillac’, the old school kind. He isn’t the flashiest thing out there and not the quickest, but he is big, fast, and steady. He was a 4 year starter at USC and while he was up and down with production, it says something when you lock down the LDE spot on a BCS team for 4 years. I think that he might be one of the safest picks in the draft outside of Sedrick Ellis. 2 Darrel Robertson DE 6-4, 255 Robertson has been compared to Miami’s Jason Taylor in that he is a tall, lean DE that teams always think they can run against. He is moving up draft boards a bit but I think that he might still be there when Jacksonville picks in Round Two. If not, they have the ammo to move up a bit in the Second. 3a Kendall Langford DE/DT 6-6, 287 This is the DE/DT swingman that is the eventual replacement for either P. Spicer or R. Meier, take your pick. Can play inside and out and can stack the line. Will take some time to develop into NFL caliber, but he has the size and speed that is hard to come by. Plus, with our extra 3rd (provided we don’t have to use it to move up in the Second, we can afford to let him learn. 3b Tom Zbikowski SS 5-11, 210 A tough guy who has some agility to him, he will add yet another nasty disposition towards Offensive Players to the Defense. He is faster than you might think and has a good run-support ability. Don’t think that just because he played for Notre Dame that he is soft, he boxed in Golden Gloves since he was 9 and has gone 60-13 over his career. If he is drafted, I fully expect him to work his way into the rotation by the end of the season. 4 Justin King CB 5-11, 192 Speed freak with all of the cover ability in the world, just needs to develop more. He may take a while until he is ready to go, but he has amazing upside. 5a Dexter Jackson WR/KR/PR 5-10, 182 It just wouldn’t be a mock without this guy in my opinion. My favorite player in the draft and Appalachian State’s most dynamic player brings an element of speed to the team that we might not have seen since Tavian Banks. A truly unique player that may never start in the NFL, but he will represent the threat of game-changing speed whenever he is on the field. It may take him a year or two to adjust to the big time, but I think that his upside is worth it 5b Carlton Powell DT 6-2, 292 Run stuffer in the middle that was a key component to Xavier Adibi’s Senior year. Wide-body guy that takes up space and has some quicks to him. This is Grady Jackson 14 years ago. 5c Kevin O’Connel QB 6-5, 225 I gotta admit, Maize turned me on to this guy, and I would love it if we could get him here. This is a purely developmental guy that will go to the PS and learn for a while. D. Garrard’s eventual replacement.
Go heavy early.

To update w/ the free agency signings, there are some changes to make...
1. Quentin Groves- We need a pass rusher and he's the best in the draft.
2. Carl Nicks- OT is a need and this guy is mammoth.
3a. Josh Johnson- Has time to groom into the starter for '10 or '11 season
3b. Andre Fluellen- Would be rated much higher if he wasn't battling injuries his senior season
4. Jermichael Finley- Great pass catcher that needs to develop his blocking
5a. Jeremy Zuttah- No sacks given up since 2005
5b. Thomas Brown- good KR ability.
5c. Tommy Blake- Got some personal issues that he needs to overcome, but definitely has the talent if he gets his head right.

| Jags Post-Free Agency Mock, Without Trade Up, 03-04-08:
Rd 1(26): DE Lawrence Jackson, USC (6th rated DE fills big need for Jags)
Rd 2(58): OT Heath Benedict, Newberry (Jags don't wait to see if he's left in 3rd)
Rd 3(71): DT Dre Moore, Maryland (good sized, quick DT adds nice depth)
Rd 3(89): SS Josh Barrett, Arizona St. (fast safety could eventually start)
Rd 4(121): TE Kellen Davis, Mich St (big athaletic TE, see ya Wrighster)
Rd 5(139): LB Ezra Butler, Nevada (continue to add speed at LB, good bye Mike P)
Rd 5(151): CB Darnell Terrell, Missouri (more depth to rejuvenate secondary)
Rd 5(152): RB Allen Patrick, Oklahoma (Toefield not brought back, 3rd RB needed)

| My latest thinking is Jags put SS over DT as a bigger need.
Rd 1 (26) DE Lawrence Jackson (may be taken even if Campbell falls)
Rd 2 (58) OT Heath Benedict (drafted for depth, and to groom as starter in 2009)
Rd 3 (71) SS Jamar Adams (big need, is Sensabaugh really 100%?)
Rd 3 (89) TE Kellen Davis (strong, great blocker, Wrighster probably out of picture)
Rd 4 (121) RB Allen Patrick (fills Toefield's spot at #3 RB)
Rd 5(139): LB Ezra Butler, Nevada (continue to add speed at LB)
Rd 5(151): CB Darnell Terrell, Missouri (more depth to rejuvinate secondary)
Rd 5(152): QB Matt Flynn (only if Jags carry 3 QB's instead of 2 this year)
