| | New thread created for the 2nd half. Should be a heckuva 2nd half, too. As good as Boston's record looks on paper, there's not really a clear cut favorite to win it all right now. There's about 13 teams out there that have a shot out there to win it all. It is going to be a great 2nd half and Playoffs. Jason Kidd was officially traded to the Mavericks today, making the West even stronger. The next name that could be on the move is Ron Artest, whom the Denver Nuggets are supposedly interested in. What a trio that would potentially be? With Melo, AI, and Artest, that would be sick, on paper anyway. Artest has the ability to lockdown a Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Josh Howard, Manu Ginobili, etc. in the Playoffs. Here's what the standings look like heading into the 2nd half of the season, playoff-race wise: Eastern Conference 1. Boston (41-9) 2. Detroit (39-13) 3. Orlando (33-21) 4. Cleveland (29-23) 5. Toronto (28-23) 6. Washington (25-27) 7. New Jersey (23-30) 8. Philadelphia (23-30) The East is WEAK. There will most likely be 2 teams with losing records heading in the playoffs. I expect Washington to go over .500 with the return of Arenas. The Hawks are in 9th place and I predict them to make the playoffs with their acquisition of Mike Bibby. After Boston and Detroit, teams 3-5 are wild cards. All three of those are great when they are on, and crap when they aren't on. In a nutshell, they are inconsistent. The Magic have the most talent out of the 3-5 teams, but no point guard. The Raps have good point guard play, and a big man, which is always great to have down the stretch. But, we all know that the Cavs have a player that can put his team on his back and carry them through the playoffs, as he showed last season. Western Conference 1. New Orleans (36-15) 2. Phoenix (37-16) 3. LA Lakers (35-17) 4. Utah (34-19) 5. San Antonio (34-17) 6. Dallas (35-18) 7. Golden State (32-20) 8. Denver (32-20) The West is strong again. Houston and Portland are 9 and 10, respectively, and have winning records. I look and see New Orleans at the top of the standings, then I see the Dallas/J-Kidd deal, and I don't see the Hornets winning that division, that is ridiculously tough. It will be a great feat for one heckuva young team, if they are to beat San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston. If the playoffs were to start today, every matchup in the West would be a GREAT matchup. How great would it be to see an 8-1 matchup like Denver-NO? How about the 7-2 with GS-PHO? I saw those 2 teams play last week vs one another, and I wished the game wouldn't of ended! It will be a great 2nd half, and I can't wait for it to get underway tonight!

| | Good stuff, Amit. Thanks. It's a good thing only one team can come out of the West. What a battle those western playoffs are gonna be.

| | Perhaps you will be able to see the Hornets' chances at winning the division this week with: Wednesday: vs. Dallas Friday: vs. Houston Saturday: @ San Antonio I was kind of hoping the Hornets would avoid Kidd like they avoided both Marion and Shaq right after the PHX-MIA trade, but at least we'll get to see the teams at full strength. Orlando is beating Detroit pretty bad right now near the end of the third quarter, although the amazing Dwight Howard hasn't really taken over. |

| | The Pistons give D12 fits all the time, but the others have stepped it up. The 3ball is falling tonight at will, and the defense has forced the Pistons into tough shots tonight. Should we hold on these last 3-4 min of the game, it'll be a nice, confidence-building win to start off the 2nd half for the Magic. LeBron has a triple-double tonight and the Cavaliers lost to the red-hot Houston Rockets.

| Toronto is up 20 on the Magic right now. The game is on sunshine and this is the second time I've watched Jose Calderon play and the more I see him, the more I think he's one of the best PG's in the NBA. He consistently gets open shots for his teammates, he can penetrate, he can hit a mid range jumper, he can get a layup.
Suns-Lakers tonight on ESPN. That should be fun.

| | New Orleans over Dallas, 104-93. Dallas is now 3 games back in the division, 1.5 games back of San Antonio (who acquired Kurt Thomas today,) and only 1 game ahead of the surging Rockets; just shows you how close things are out West. Kidd: 8 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 6 turnovers Paul: 31 points, 11 assists, 9 steals, 5 rebounds, 1 turnover Lakers up 65-57 at halftime over the Suns. |

| Celtics lost 124-118 to the Nuggets last night. 242 total points is a lot of points. Kevin Garnett did play last night, put in about 20 minutes and was pretty worn after his extended layoff. Ray Allen returned to his mediocre shooting ways after going lights out in the AS game. He had 14 in the first quarter then was a non-factor.
