The NFC South doesn't have a true #1 team, in my opinion. It wouldn't be that hard for the Panthers or the Saints to overtake the Bucs. Hell, even that Falcons have a shot at winning the division. Of corpse, I don't see that happening. Delhomme started throwing a Nerf a couple of months ago. That sounds really encouraging. Looks like they might have to go the two back route like Minnesota. What I don't understand about Carolina is why they haven't ever really gone after a big #2 WR to compliment Smith. They signed Keyshawn a few years back, which was good, but hardly the solution. I mean if they have Smith and say Chad Johnson, that'd work. But I think they have been way too passive in the pass department. Smith is good as there is, but he can't throw the ball and then run downfield and catch it. They need another top WR and a really good QB, still, IMHO. The two RB thing is good, but you don't let a guy like Smith wilt on the vine.

RE: Which rookie will have the biggest impact this upcoming season?

Impact can mean many different things.. Patrick Willis was a bad-azz last year.. the Niners still sucked.

Even if Jonathon Stewart broke 2,500 yards rushing.. I still think Carolina's going to suck.

EDIT: and of course I am exaggerating to make a point about how much Carolina stinks.

RE: Which rookie will have the biggest impact this upcoming season?

Tyrell Johnson - S

2nd rd pick - Vikings

RE: Which rookie will have the biggest impact this upcoming season?

Jerod Mayo, guy is going to be star in this league. He is a great athlete, leader and a team player who can play inside or outside LB. Its just too bad he is a Patriot.

RE: Which rookie will have the biggest impact this upcoming season?

I like Matt Ryan, he's a cerebral QB, who has a good arm, has a nice release, and looks like he's got a good head on his shoulders........I think his game is going to fit the pro level nicely. Having said that you never pick a rookie QB as a "rooke that will have the biggest impact".

RE: Which rookie will have the biggest impact this upcoming season?
rfc17 (6/29/2008)

91 Off The Edge 93 (6/29/2008)
I think Matt Ryan went a bit too high.. During Cutler's senior year, he had Earl Bennett who I think is better than anyone Ryan had this season.
Ryan lucked out in the sense that this year just so happened to be a weak one for upper echelon QB prospects. Lots of depth but little elite. if he had come out the same year Cutler did, Ryan may have been the 4th QB taken. Young and Leinart had the winning pedigree with the national titles. And I think Cutler has better physical tools and is a better athlete. most DI schools were recruiting him as a defensive back. Vandy was one of the few who recruited him at QB.
You're right. He did have Earl Bennett.. That guy might be a heckuva player in the league.
Yeah.. I agree in regards to if he had come out the same year as Cutler.
Ryan never amazed me. Nothing to warrant the 3rd overall pick..

RE: Which rookie will have the biggest impact this upcoming season?

Jonathan Stewart

RE: Which rookie will have the biggest impact this upcoming season?
91 Off The Edge 93 (6/29/2008)
I think Matt Ryan went a bit too high.. Brohm was 1 INT for every 39.4. Henne 1 INT for every 30.9. Booty was 34.0. so those 19 INTs dont look so bad in that light.

Seems like everyone is jumping on the Matt Forte bandwagon. And you can count me on that. I was hyping him up before the draft... i kept posting his youtube highlights. I thought he showed really good feet for a guy his size. and he has pretty good speed in the open field. he even looked good against LSU's defense last year. Plus the way the offseason is working out for the Bears, he'll get the opportunity for a lot of playing time. which is really the key factor in how productive a rookie will be. Durant was very good for us when he got the chance to play, but if it hadnt been for Peterson getting hurt, we probably wouldnt have seen much from him. so everything is falling in place for Forte to have a successful year.

RE: Which rookie will have the biggest impact this upcoming season?
The Lord of Orange (6/28/2008)
I wouldn't be suprised if McFadden ends up with some pretty good numbers. McFadden has the size to be a running back in the league. Bush played in the Pac-10 which fluffed his numbers coming out of school. McFadden played against real, physical defenses and excelled. His size, power, and speed will allow him to excel.

The real question mark with McFadden is that he doesn't have a very good offense in Oakland around him.

RE: Which rookie will have the biggest impact this upcoming season?

Darren McFadden will be a disappointment in the pro's. McFadden needs holes to run through.. then he can tear through a secondary.

EDIT: I completely agree with your assessment of Gholston. Once he is blocked - he stays blocked. I can't think of a time he disengaged from a blocker.

Derrick Harvey is going to be much better.. and Chris Long will definitely be a crapload better.

RE: Which rookie will have the biggest impact this upcoming season?

I think that the Raiders O-line, when it comes to running the ball, does just fine. I mean, Justin Fargas was a 1,000 yard rusher last season, and he wasn't even the opening day starter for the Raiders. I think McFadden will be fine there.

Now, I think that that fool the Jets drafted, Gholston, I think he could be a bust. I always thought he just coasted on his talent, and had no drive to improve really.

But since we're talking about impacts, I'll say that Jonathan Stewart will completely revitalize the Panthers run game.

Which rookie will have the biggest impact this upcoming season?

Darren McFadden on almost any other team would have my vote.. but their O-line is just atrocious and he's going to get smothered.

I hate to make a homer pick but I think Quentin Groves will.. he has some insane speed and as a DPR I think he'll dominate.
