To Krazy, Mathis has been average this year. I'm not going to argue, you can think he has been pro-bowl good, but you know, he won't go to the pro-bowl and there are obvious reasons why.

Chad is not happy and doesn't play hard. Same as Randy Moss in Oakland.

Now, Matt Jones' numbers this year were better than Moss's in Oakland, but you wouldn't say Matt Jones is better than Randy Moss would you?

Basically it's like this:

When Matt Jones has 6 back to back 1000 + receiving and a total of 48 touchdowns in that span, then I'll agree with you that Jones has reached Chads level.

Matt Jones has proved nothing to me yet. He catches balls on slants, curls, and midslants all day. I've never seen an explosive play from him. He needs to step up and start making some deep catches, breaking some tackles, and using his so called 4.3 speed that he had because he def does not look anywhere close to that speed after he catches the ball.

Chad Johnson makes you respect the deep ball, can run any route and catch the ball, has speed to make plays after the catch and has a range of receiving that is rarely found (sportsscience on espn proved this).

Okay, he wants out of Cincy (no surprise there). That doesn't mean all of a sudden he's not a good receiver and better than Matt Jones. I'm not even a big fan of his, but when I read some of the dumb stuff I've seen in this thread, I have to respond. Did you watch the Dallas game? IMO I saw several key drives stall because Palmer would not even look in Chad's side of the field. Again, they are 0-6 and TJ's numbers are up and Chad's are down. That's not a coincidence. We will see Sunday, how close I am to why.

I do know had Holmes not fallen down maybe he doesn't make the catch, but Mathis definitely does not make the INT. He wasn't even close to "shadowing" the receiver.

If you knew anything about football you would also understand that Anderson knew he had a free play likeley Mathis as well. That allows Mathis to take a chance as well as Anderson because whatever the outcome it really does not matter.

KrazyD I know you have a thing for Mathis it is obvious from your sig but the dude aint playing at a PB level no way. I know he is local and all but I just do not get what you are looking at on the field. The guy got thrown to twice on Sunday and both times he was not only beat but whipped. The long pass was a quick throw you can't blame that on the pressure. He was the third guy on the tackle and still couldn't make it because he is scared to get dirty. I am as big a fan of the Jags as the next and just hate to see someone dance around the field giving up big plays week in and week out. I bet you could pick out a couple of tackles on week he misses.

No way am I going to say Matt Jones is a better WR that ocoho noshow but I don't know how many Bengals games you've watched this year... just last Sunday he was WIDE open and didn't even look back for the ball as it sailed right past his head... another foot over and the ball would have hit him in the head... he cut off a route (stopped running) over the deep middle where no one was close to him and the ball went about 5 yards past him... on both plays he was talked to by the WR coach when he came to the sidelines...

I'm sorry I thought I was talking to someone who knew football, my mistake. Chad is the deep threat WR, TJ is the possession WR. You don't find it odd that they are 0-6 and they haven't scored many points, yet TJ's numbers are up and Chad's numbers are down.

As for who's being double covered, TJ has almost twice as many catches as Chad. So, you are say either TJ is the greatest receiver in the league to have 54(2) receptions while being double covered or the QB is a bonifide to be throwing to the guy who is doubled twice as often as the guy single covered. It's not a direct correlation, but it is ONE of the reasons they are not scoring, and since their defense has always been bad, maybe ONE of the main reasons they are not winning.

Finally, since you appear to be the ONLY one in this thread who thinks Matt Jones is a better receiver than Chad Johnson, maybe you need to check your testicular grip.

Nothing is worse than Chad saying, "I'm gonna kiss the star," referring to the Texas Stadium midfield logo, of course. Everyone still remembers when T.O. ran on it as a 49er and San Francisco suspended him for a week because of that, so why would a Bengals receiver even think about doing it? And there is no way he can love Dallas.

Now I completely agree Matt is better than Chad in the end zone: he never made a show and got fined for it after a single one of his touchdown catches. Nobody says he is a trash talker either because he keeps his mouth shut.

First of all, Cromartie is a a freak athlete with terrible coverage skills.

Now,why do you think you're the only one who has these sentiments about Mathis? Is it just that everyone else is wrong or just out to get you? I said that Mathis does have the ability to scare recievers from throwing to his side do to his great playmaking ability but the lack of passes thrown his way also have to be somewhat attributed to the fat that our other CB's have proven to be nothing more than average and can easily be picked on. Mathis is a pro-bowler, his coverage skills and footwork look close to what they were in 06, but in my opinion ihe still isn't 100 percent healthy and his technique has suffered...if you claim to know as much as you do, you would allow yourself to note this. He ain't perfect.

Mathis has been solid all year...tackling has never been his forte. He has the Neon Deion syndrome, he wants to make a play on the ball at all times...not so much on the receiver. Mathis is playing better than he was 2 years ago. Why do people talk about thigns they dont understand?

that year, mathis was a good CB, but teams did not fear him.. the result? he was thrown on 96 times that year... THATS A TON.. a year later, PLAYING HURT, guess how much he was thrown on? 64 times... thats a HUGE DROP... teams feared him the next year... also, in that 8 int season, he wasnt guarding #1 WR's every play of ever game, last year he did that some, this year, he has done it EVERY SINGLE GAME.

Yeah one was 21 yards the other about 42 yards? Mathis gives up more big plays than he makes. And like everyone said he can't tackle. I hope he shuts them down this week there are no excuses against a backup QB and a last place team.[/quote]

are you really this stupid? the 2 biggest plays mathis has given up ALL YEAR, were the 2 catches edwards had last week... how can you say these things and expect to be taken seriously?

he hasnt given up more than 2 catches all year... not even bailey covers the #1 WR on every team every play like mathis does... chris chambers beat bailey for a 50 yard TD this year... guess how many TD's mathis has given up this year? ... 1, on a 4 yard route... thats it..

so many of you are as clueless as it gets, you have a top 3 CB on your team and you focus on tackling... nvm the fact that 3 other players missed the tackle last game, lets just blame the best player on our defense.

lets see... mathis has shadowed every team's best WR the whole game... something no other CB does as much as he does... he hasnt given up more than 2 catches in ANY GAME THIS ENTIRE YEAR... he has 2 more TD's than fred taylor... he has as many TD's as matt jones... he shuts his man down every week, the first long pass against him came last week when the QB had all day to execute a double move where even then he was still on him pretty well.

If you watch the replays of the "bobble", Jones got hit at the apex of his jump bumping him back just enough to make the ball hit the tips of his fingers instead of his palms.

Matt Jones would not even tell you that while he's while on a coke high! He's had a banged up Palmer all year and is now being thrown to by a backup. Though playing well, Matt has benefited by both. The #1- Porter and #2- R. Williams being injured for the begining of the season. They are not a great TEAM, but to think Matt is in Chad's class as a receiver is just braindead.

Why not go to Football Outsiders' DVOA/DYAR stats?

There, a certain Mr C. Johnson is ranked 12th in the league by DYAR, 22nd in the league by DVOA.

By comparison, the top Jaguars receiver is Matt Jones - 21st by DYAR, 32nd by DVOA.

Quite a gap, I'm sure you'll agree. But - hang on, that C. Johnson plays for [b]Detroit[/b]. Where's Ocho Cinco? Just let me scan down the chart... further down... down...

There he is. 50th by DYAR, 56th by DVOA. Pretty much on a par with Reggie Williams (55th by DYAR, 48th by DVOA). Hmm. A DVOA of -7.1% - meaning you'd do [b]better[/b] if you replaced him with a stunningly average receiver. Good luck with that.

Career? What does a career have to do with this year? Emitt Smith had a great career in Dallas, but that doesn't mean in 2004 he didn't suck. Career numbers don't mean crap after you have watched his pathetic performances this year. He is not better than Matt Jones THIS YEAR, and in my opinion will never be again. Have you watched a Bengals game this year? If not, you cannot comment. Chad Johnson has become a terrible route runner, he cannot shake a defender for the life of him. And his gamebreaking speed? Psh, give me a break...I have yet to see him seperate from a defender this year.

And you say...nobody on this team is close to Ocho's skill????? Can I get any evidence of that whatsoever? You're basing 85's "skill" off his past numbers...and last I checked, we have a HOF runningback who's past numbers are better than Johnson's, so by your logic he is more skilled!

I really encourage you to go on NFL.com and watch 85's highlights from this year...there won't be many.
