Tom Coughlin is and always will be a better head coach than Jack Del Rio.

I think JDR is still a good coach, but Del Rio is hardly the attention to detail guy or taskmaster that Coughlin is.

I understand why they made the move at the time, in firing Coughlin, but this team undoubtably would have rebounded had Coughlin never been fired. The salary cap mess was behind them, the DT's were starting to develop and there was still the solid core of playmakers.

I'll even go so far to say that this team would have peaked higher han they have under JDR/ Harris over the last 5 years had they kept Coughlin around.

There would be overall better playmakers on the team as well.

We brought many decent/players in :

1. Mark Brunell
2. Jimmy Smith
3. Keenan McCardell
4. Carnell Lake
5. Mike Peterson
6. Paul Spicer

and more.

Give Tom credit.

What has Del Rio drafted?

1. Matt Jones (having a decent year, but taking forever). Still needs more to time to prove he's 1st round quality.

2. Reggie Williams (same) Had a good 10 TD year, but only 38 receptions

3. Lewis (still hasn't become a good TE)

The only rookies I've seen that have had a break out season :

1. Jones-Drew
2. Reggie Nelson
3. Rashean Mathis
4. Daryl Smith

Those are the only rookies that come to mind that were amazing.

Coughlin did some of his best coaching in 2002 with a team that had no talent, but people of your ilk weren't smart enough to realize that so all you did was demand that Coughlin be fired. I sat in the stadium with 40,000 fans listening to people like you demanding it for an entire season.

Wow, I was off on a few seasons. It's the fact no team has done what we have.

Browns, only 1 playoff season
Panthers, few playoffs (superbow) but more losing seasons then winning
Saints, always a losing franchise until 2006, but lost again in 2007
Buccaneers, weren't good until late 90's
Texans, been in the league 2002 and still can't find the playoffs

Yeah, take your words back you fool. Wow, I was off on 1-2 years.. Still the fact Tom has brought in better players then Del Rio. Del Rio did manage to bring in Gregg Jones, he was a bust at RB and excelled at FB (lucky for us). Still, a good share of our starters in the Del Rio era, came from Tom. Tom had to find those people, you dumb ****.

Feel free to point out anywhere where I indicated that Del Rio was better than Coughlin. That pea between your ears clearly struggles with reading comprehension.

Coughlin had an expanded salary cap to deal with for the first few years that he was the head coach. That helped him build a team quickly.

Del Rio inherited a team gutted by cap mismanagement and was forced to almost completely rebuild the team by giving both expansion franchises a financial advantage over the rest of the league.

Coughlin was a good coach, but his time here was well done when they fired him. He was toast and needed to go. Only some half-witted tool such as yourself wouldn't grasp that point.

you know what people and especially ignorant jag fans seem to forget.. Tom coughlin has a number 1 overall pick at QB and the best pass protecting OL in football. the jags have a down year because of injurys and you are calling for coaches heads..

first off Mike Smith did nothing as D.Coordinator here . he had a extremely talented defense and just lined them up in cover 2 80% of the time. wow so much coaching goes into that.. and cover 2 is the worst defense in the history of defense schemes if you use it to much.. which he did and thats why offenses exploited him for it last year. now our defense is adapting to a new scheme and every1 wants Greg williams fired rofl.

Greg williams actually does something as a D.Coordinator, he creates his own plays. Jack is just not allowing him to do so because we can not generate a pass rush even with the blitz. sensabaugh and mike pete are the reasons why we cant cover and why we cant tackle. its players not scheme.

I've been here since '96 and appreciate what TC did for us and is doing for the Giants, but I'll take Jack for several reasons:

1. TC was a creative offensive mind and drafted well - but also had some big misses on free agent acquisitions.

2. I'd prefer to have a coach that focuses on running the ball and stopping the run. Obviously its not working this year, but is there any doubt that is Jack's focus? That's what I want.

3. One thing Cowher and Jeff Fisher have proven, an organization can be successful with continuity. JACK isn't killing us, our lack of talent is killing us - and Jack only gets part of the blame for that. Keep the continuity and upgrade the personnel.

4. TC has more disciplinary issues (locker room, not off the field) than Jack because TC is wound so tightly. I hated that. If Jack was such a light touch that the players were running the asylum, then I'd say he needs to go - but that's not the case.

How about TC for GM, and keep Jack as the coach?

Times, they are a changin'! It seems that there were minimal changes in the defense, Stroud being the most significant. Yet our vaunted defense has been absent this year. Losing Mike Smith [although he has proven he is up to the opportunity] was probably the most costly personnel issue that we can't address quickly enough. It was evident that our defense is TERRIBLE! Now, if we had not had the FG blocked, nor the kick-off return fumbled, we MIGHT have won. But ........ against the Browns, if our defense could put pressure on the quarterback or knock the receivers off thier route maybe we would not have looked so bad. I don't think it's a clear cut JDR or TC thing. I just think it's what it is. Another year maybe squandered, although there is still time to get the apple cart straightened out. But the road ahead is producing some large potholes! OB Juan Canobee [sp], your our only hope?
