The left leg is not your brain or your heart, so you're able to keep fighting without it. The difference is instead of fighting for a better 40 yard dash time, Collier is trying to learn a new skill that is equally challenging. He is getting ready for discharge. I think Shands will let Collier go home as soon as there is confidence in his ability to take care of himself. He knows if he can go from being a Wal-Mart clerk to a Jaguars player, he can continue to live a normal life and do a lot that previously was never thought possible.

RE: Richard Collier Paralyed

I cannot possibly fathom what I would do if I were in Collier's place. He fought to be an NFL player where you have to have not only physical strength but mental strength as well. He'll come through this and show those who did this to him that they won't keep him down.

RE: Richard Collier Paralyed

this is heart breaking and I hope this gives ALL the motivation for the team to go out there and pound on anyone that is in there way.

I also hope Collier somehow makes a speedy recover and attends the Jaguars game to give them extra momentum and all the will power to rattle the team at our house of Teal....that would be extra nice....especially against the DOLTS

at ease Collier...best wishes to him, his family and the whole jaguar team...

RE: Richard Collier Paralyed

Just wanted to give a shout-out for Richard Collier. The fact that he will make a recovery after so much trauma is a testimate to his heart and spirit. I'm still in shock and my heart is so heavy. My hurt is turning to anger though. I am pisssed off that this thing happened, and that the person responsible has yet to be caught. I wish there was something I could do, or even us collectively as Jags fans. Anyone have any ideas on ways to help? I'm thinking of writing a letter to the PD expressing my hurt and desire for an arrest, just to keep this fresh in their minds. I'm sure they are working as hard as they can to close this case but you know how it goes when cases run cold. I don't know, I just want to help and I think if we all worked together we could make something happen. Richard deserves justice.
My plan is to write down my prayer and mail it to Richard so he can see what some Jaguars fans are thinking about - the medical staff, friends, family members, all the Jaguars, sheriffs involved in the case, and whoever ruined Collier's life with his gun. I think it will help Richard to know Jaguars fans everywhere are praying about what happened instead of simply saying, "Get well soon," and then forgetting everything. He can look at that beautiful sheet of paper to remind himself everything will be OK in the end, no matter what happens. If you want to add something, let me know so I can start a new thread for prayers.

RE: Richard Collier Paralyed

Just seen the players reaction video on the main page. I just read about this on NFL.com.
When I saw the headline, my first thought was, they finally are saying something. I hated reading the rumor on this board that he had a leg amputated with no way to confirm that surgery was done. Now it is like, "So he did lose a leg. Now we know." But at the same time, I wish the rumor was a lie and he had no problems with a leg having blood clots. As for the paralysis part, I was glad it only is from the waist but wish even that problem did not exist. So I have mixed feelings about the report.

I completely understand the "eye for an eye" concept. It is normal to want revenge after something like this happens. I hope the offender loses the right to own a gun. This type of incident makes me wish the Second Amendment was repealed because some people should not have "the right to bear arms."

Why are mean people allowed to have guns if all they want to do is shoot innocent football players? Things like this make me wish I could understand criminal minds. It could not happen without a reason and I want to know what that reason was. Why would a person want to kill Collier instead of another bad man who deserves to die?

If I personally knew Richard as a friend, I would be crying like a baby right now and acting like he died. Because he is paralyzed, I feel like he lost both legs, since he is unable to do anything with the right one. To be confined to a wheelchair forever as both an amputee and a paraplegic is nothing short of horrible. I can only hope he is able to recover completely where the damage was not disabling and has a good life despite the fact it no longer includes playing football. I will pray for everybody who must now take care of Richard - family, friends, and medical staff - and the cops in charge of finding the heartless s who did this to him, not just Richard himself.

:angry::crying::(:confused::ohmy::thumbdown::pray:
I doubt very highly that the person that did this to Richard is a lawful gun owner.

RE: Richard Collier Paralyed

Richard's life won't be the same, but at least he's alive.
