The fact that he fought so hard to keep living at the hospital despite losing one leg and the ability to use the other is inspiration. Saying he will try to start a business, become a coach, or do something else with his life only adds to that. The hope will always be there because he chose to persevere. Richard is not the kind of guy who will get depressed if he is not playing football because he knows there are ways he can help others without running and blocking on Sunday afternoons.

The idea to do harm to the bad guys goes back to Jesus preaching eye for an eye. Of course Jesus did not mean we should make other people physically blind, but the message sounded like criminals should be punished with the same bodily harm as an innocent man they attacke. Right or wrong, this is how many people think. But that does not mean we really want criminals to lose the use of their legs forever. We do want the criminal(s) to be locked up and die in jail because the damage done won't be reversed. If you force a man to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, you do not deserve to walk on the same streets he used to. It is not like we wish suffering on a person because prison is doing justice, not inflicting pain on a shooter.

I read that the doctor's prognosis is for him to never walk again. I pray that the good Lord gives him the strength to persevere and overcome those words.

I still can't believe the cowardly acts that led to this. How can someone walk among us with that on his/her conscience? I can't fathom it.

Such a tragic ending to his career. Most of what has to be said has been said. Regardless, prayers and best wishes to Collier & family.

I think I just began to appreciate the fact I'm fully healthy a lot more. Nobody wants to end up paralyzed waist down in a wheelchair, much less without a leg. But as some say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. And I'm sure Collier will become stronger as a person after such a tragedy. Big props to him for looking to move on instead of drowning in sorrow and desperation.

Best of luck in the future for Richard, and may justice be applied to the culprits.

Just listened to the press conferences on jaguars.com. So sad. I pray for him and his family that this can have a positive outcome. I'm sure it will take some time but he can be an inspiration to so many. Maybe, just maybe, that was God's plan for him all along. I dunno.

Truely a sad outcome. Collier was on his way to being the starting LT for the Jax Jags in 2009. They kept away the information for so long it was obvious something serious had happened. It just goes to show that the people who did this have no direction in their life and that society as a whole is going to ship.

It's sad to hear the extent of your injuries Big Rich, good luck to you and your journeys. You'll always be a Jag in the Jag family!!!

But, my husband read on some message board a couple of weeks ago that he was shot 14 times and a bullet hit his spine. Seems like that is now true. Also, my son sent us a text from Orlando last week, telling us about the amputation. Those people that leaked that information should be fired.

I texted everyone I knew the news...and got "Im crying now" texts back.

People really were holding hope for the best...

At least he came out with his life, but this is terrible. No wonder the team was all shook up. You know they had inside info on this.

I hope to see Big Rich on the field at halftime one day so we can all show our support.

Ball size has nothing to do with it. Brain size does. Because others do not share our values and resorts to inhumane behaviour doesn't mean we can do the same. If I knew who did it, I'd get the police and lead them right to the guy. More violence won't solve anything.
