Why in the world would anyone want to start that kind of slapfight if there weren't some truth to it?

McManus adding his 2 cents makes that virtually the entire 1010xl staff who has the similar opinon that Lemon isn't all that.

And it's not just talking heads on that station. Plenty of us Jaguar fans have the same sentiment. Vic couldn't have said it more clearly. He has much to show to justify his contract, and hasn't done it yet. What we're paying him is near starter money, and he's struggling to show he's a backup.

It speaks VOLUMES that Miami was perfectly fine with letting Lemon walk, yet did not hesitate a single second in calling his agent when noodle-armed Chad Pennington hit the market yesterday afternoon. They may not end up signing Pennington, but it sure would appear that Miami (who desperately needs help) has been more interested in acquiring Pennington than they were in retaining Lemon.[/quote]

All of the people that you're using to present your case are either fans, or not involved in anything but speculation.

The people that actually know about these things, like coaches and scouts, who actually get paid to make these types of decisions would probably know better than you or I.

I know that the whimp loves to heap blame on Shack Harris. Last time I checked, the guy making the recommendation is the director of pro player personnel. Harris has to have some trust in his underlings to have some clue about what they're recommending before he'll take the decision to Weaver, Del Rio, and Vance.

Apparently, Gene Smith thought highly enough of Lemon to make the recommendation to pull the trigger on the selection.

Odd, I don't see anyone blasting him.

As far as Miami letting Lemon walk speaking volumes, not really. Lemon is not the prototypical style of QB that would be under consideration by Bill Parcells. So, to use that as the leaping off point for any argument is ludicrous.

There's a reason that the team is looking at Pennington. He does have ties to Parcells that you fail to mention.

Lemon is going to be just fine as a backup.

The funny thing is, TMD says shack is a top 8 GM, but then every post, calls him terrible and pathetic. The guy contradicts everything he says, runs from anything that he cant answer, and even doesnt believe stats that prove him wrong. It's probably the greatest thing I've ever seen.

If that's the worst mistake this year, giving Lemon 3 mill a year, then I can live with that. He's our back up. If Wayne wants to waste his money then that's his business. It doesn't affect anyone here. Now if we wasted 3 million on a guy who is suppose to start and sucks up the joint then I can see people giving the FO some grief. What I'm saying is, if Garrard plays the whole season then it really doesn't matter what we payed our back-up. It doesn't affect the team.

It's amazing how people jump on the FO before we even see the player play a down in a real football game. It's one thing to say "I don't agree with the decision, but lets see what happens" then to say "The FO is terrible, I can't believe Shack is still here, what a terrible mistake we just made" and then when the guy plays well, it's like "oh well, one good move out of 10 mistakes, yadi yadi ya". What I'm saying is you can't win no matter what you do. Let the players play. Have a little faith.

What, afraid to hear the truth about Lemon?

Go compare the stats for yourself. No reason to be a jackarse to me.

They are virtually identical. Except that Bouman is has a slightly higher passer rating, completion percentage, avg completion, and avg rush. They both are about 1:1 in INT/TD ratio. Lemon has the yardage only because he's got the starts. Not at all what you'd think, especially based on the head scratcher of a contract the Jags gave Lemon.

It appears he'll be given ample opportunity to expose himself this preseason. I'd love to see him earn his contract, and I'll be first to praise him for it. Will you have the stones to call him out if he doesn't? Sure doesn't sound like it.

McManus said today on his show that he felt the only reason Lemon is #2 is because of his contract, and that he feels Bouman should be the backup.

"Lemon is likely to get the bulk of the playing time and the Jaguars would like for Lemon to justify his acquisition in free agency with a strong preseason performance."

Gray's not coming back. Bouman may not leave if they're concerned enough about our Lemon.[/quote]

Tommy Mac has been to 2 practices the entire training camp.

While I'm sure that, at least to a certain extent, Lemon is the backup because of the contract, I think it's also because of the fact that he's simply better than Bouman.

Bouman almost completely fell apart toward the latter half of the public session of training camp.

There's nothing missing, IMO. The point of my entire article was that there were 4 areas that I saw as areas where the camp battles would be most interesting. The backup QB position isn't a position battle as far as I'm concerned. Cleo Lemon is the backup.

If you read the camp reports over the past 2 weeks, you'd see that Lemon has come a long way in his progression. The team would be no worse off than they were with Quinn Gray if he has to step in for Garrard. The offense would have to be adjusted, but Lemon is more than capable of holding his own if needed.

Charles Davis is actually one of the more entertaining stories of training camp. I didn't figure him for the roster initially, but after watching this guy in training camp, I think we may have found a third TE that we will want to hang on to who isn't named Wrighster.

Based on how he catches the football, I think Koetter will find a way to work him into the playbook.

Let's see what happens with Pettway/Wyche in the preseason. Wyche has had the better camp overall, but the cream rises to the top when the hitting goes live.[/quote]

This guy intrigues me as well. Given his size I'm compelled to think he's probably a good blocker. If indeed that is the case, then there's no need for a guy like Angulo who's virtually worthless in the passing game. I also think Wrighster is headed to IR yet again (possibly on the PUP at first), if not the waiver list. There's no room on the roster IMO for a chronic injury waiting to happen. Chris Brown is too small to be a legitimate TE, and Adam Bishop was already waived. So I'm starting to think the TE line-up will look like this...

Greg Estandia
Charles Davis
Joey Zelenka (will he ever actually play a down as a TE?)
Chris Brown or Isaac Smolko (on Practice Squad)
George Wrighster (on PUP/IR)

I loved the report, however I think there was one thing missing that it really needs.

What about some indication of the QB position. From reading everything I can, it appears that DG is ahead of where he was last year in training camp and seems poised to have a good year, hopefully better than last.

What about Cleo Lemon? Is he showing improvement in camp? Can he get the job done if DG goes out for 3-4 weeks?

Great job this year, Tim. Yours are always the most detailed reports available for Jags training camp.

That's the first time I've heard Sensabaugh given the edge as starter. I don't really care who gets the job if they perform, but I'll remember where I heard it first.

Go, Jags. Let's cheer for our D-ends to put on a show tomorrow to turn up the pressure a bit on Harvey. Is Williams (DC) the type to use his blitzing in preseason games?

I was never as high on Cotrone as others. I could see how he was a devastating blocker who excelled in moving to the 2nd level and blocking LBers. Still, in my mind he did not exhibit the talent that Charles David exhibits as an H-Back.

how much is wrighster making? didnt he just sign a contract a year or 2 ago? I wouldnt be suprised if they cut him, especially with the huge contract harvey is going to soon sign.

about the secondary thing. I still think Brian Williams will start at SS, but I'm now thinking when they are in nickel he will move to the NB.

You'll proabably see him as first alternate at CB if Florence or Mathis go out or need a breather. Even if BW slides over to fill for them if they're worried about height/matchup, Starks would still be BWs replacement at NB.

I've always commented on liking the idea of having BW, Sensabaugh, and Nelson on the field most of the time. That's a load of DB talent where the third guy could be playing a nickel corner, safety, or linebacker role. QBs can't identify the coverage solely based on who's on the field or where they're lining up.

From what I have witnessed Charles Davis is not the blocker that Angulo is but he is one heck of an H-Back who in a short area is a very nice target for David Garrard.

Estandia appears to be the seam stretching TE, while Davis is the over the middle short area TE and Marcedes Lewis combines both.

Based on how he catches the football, I think Koetter will find a way to work him into the playbook.
