Yea, I guess it just depends on how the guarantees were structured.

If the 1.335 was a straight signing bonus it's easy. Just divide 1,335,000 into 4 (years of the contract) and it comes out to 333,750. Then add that to the base salaries provided by Robb and you get his cap number for each year.[/quote]

And there you have the whole formula. Another tactic I use is to add up his base salaries and signing bonus to see if it reaches his contract total. If not, there may be additional bonus money in the contract.

Perhaps because it's not really the "earth shattering" news some would like to make it out to be.

The agreement is in principle, as he hasn't technically signed yet. Once he gets here and signs the contract, then more details can be shared. No rush in getting ahead of the story until then. Not to mention, it would make a much better article if you add to it an interview or at least a few comments from Groves when he arrives/signs. Anybody and his brother can regurgitate that they've reached a deal, and most fans already know that by now.

Remember that due to the homepage being the official website of the team, news like this isn't reported until the team makes a formal announcement. It's not that Vic doesn't want to write, technically, he doesn't have anything to write about.

i think people always assume players make much more than they do. only the very top picks do. groves is a second round pick. he got 1.3 up front and about half a million a year for 4 years. That makes 3.3 million total. It is typical for where he was drafted. For example, Jones-Drew got 2.75 over 4 years. He will get 445,000 this year, which is why he is such a deal.

Antoine Cason, who was picked 28th by SD in the first round, got 5 years 12 million. So it sounds like it's pretty much in line.[/quote]

To add to that. Malcolm Kelly was drafted by the Redskins right before Groves and he got a 4 year 3.36 million dollar deal, with 1.655 million in guarantees.

Where did you get 13 million per year from?

A defensive end from Auburn, Groves agreed to a deal that will pay him in the $3.3 million range, and includes a signing bonus of $1.355 million, the Times-Union has learned. Groves will sign the contract sometime Friday.

Just wondering if maybe you have a different article or something?

If Hayward is able to go, then Groves was the important signing. I'm not sure how he'll be used, but I am sure that he's the key to whatever pass rush schemes that Greg Williams might have in mind. Harvey needs to sign soon if he's going to have a realistic oportunity of competing for the start at RDE. I believe he'll be starting by mid-season regardless, but if he holds out into the Preseason than his chances of starting week 1 begin to diminish quickly.
