I can't blame Weaver one bit for wanting to sell the team. If anything, he had every reason to sell it years ago and we're lucky we've gotten as long as we have with this team. We can't sellout. We can't even get a sponsor, which is completely sad. The owners of every team have a big influence on a team moving, because they will all get more money, so you know they will encourage a move in every way. Anybody, who is relying on this potential buyer having know ties to LA is an . He has no ties to Jax either! If you had no tie to either but were a billionaire who had to pick one, which would it be? Any person who whines about any of this rumor and does NOT have season tickets should be punched in the face. Also, NO, and I repeat, NO other stories about the sale and move of the team have EVER had this much detail. So nobody should be blowing this story off. I've got so much more, but I'm tired. We've seen it a million times, especially in sports, staunch denials and then a team or coach leaves in the middle of the night. I personally don't believe that random reporters just wake up one morning and decide to do stories on the Jaguars. The team barely gets press as it is, so why would the Jags be the focus of some conspiracy. I believe the story comes up every year because there is some basis to it. Unfortunately we won't know until it's official, the same way the Dolphins lost their coach.

RE: This could be bad

Wayne Weaver will be making a statement today.

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/gmj/news-article.aspx?storyid=113409&catid=114

RE: This could be bad
rollin thunder (7/10/2008)

BUCKETHEAD (7/10/2008)

rollin thunder (7/10/2008)
man if they get sold imma be so pissed! i just got my tickets ,i would never of bought them had i known it was possible for the team to get sold!

i can only guess in this case all refund demands will be refused if a deal does happen!

and if it does happen i hope weaver cant step foot in a resturaunt without having to check his food for surprises!

i thank the Mr.weaver for bringing a home team, but if a deal goes down that, love will turn to hate!
In my humble opinion, this is not an excellent post.
you must be from L.A.!

i dont like your attitude! so there! dont care what you have to say not even a little bit! dont care about your opinion!dont care about you!you could die in a hellfire ,i wouldnt even notice! im not day in day out on these forums!

see what happened was..I was watchin the news, didnt like what i woke up to! if a deal goes down i want my money back plain and simple!

so yea whatever dork! be a forum cridict, and realize you take pride in nothing that matters! and after your nerdgasm ,remember you can see the sun in jax! but,now i do hear the smog can be nice in L.A.!!

in my most humble opinion, this is a horrible post! Two reasons:

1) Capital gains taxes. Right now they are at a maximum of 15%. Regardless of who wins the White House, we will probably see capital gains taxes going up, in an effort the solve the federal government's deficit problems. That means if he delays a sale, it could cost him $100 million dollars in extra taxes that he would not have to pay if he sold the team NOW.

2) Inheritance taxes. If he keeps the team and passes it along to his heirs, his estate will owe massive estate taxes. That works fine if the estate has other assets that it can sell off, but I believe WW's assets are mostly tied up in this $800 million NFL team. So, even if he keeps the team, his heirs will be forced to sell it.

So, sell it now: 15% capital gains tax.
Sell it later: speculatively, up to 28% capital gains tax.
Leave it to heirs upon his death: up to 49% inheritance tax.

FIGURE IT OUT.

What can we do? Buy tickets, don't worry about things we can't control, and enjoy each day we have with our beloved team. As they say in LA, que sera sera.

It will all happen in slow motion.

RE: This could be bad

If the team is valued at 800 million when Weaver passes away, it could trigger hundreds of millions in inheritance tax, which would force a sale anyway.

RE: This could be bad
BJORN TOURAQUE (7/10/2008)
If we are in jeopardy then so is KC, Buffalo, New Orleans, Carolina, Tennessee, Green Bay.

Why? I can't blame Weaver one bit for wanting to sell the team. If anything, he had every reason to sell it years ago and we're lucky we've gotten as long as we have with this team. We can't sellout. Any person who whines about any of this rumor and does NOT have season tickets should be punched in the face.
