It was that simple - I think.

Giles showed some real ability at the end of his senior year. I am curious, though, why he didn't get more playing time in college. Also, why did Tampa Bay cut him so quickly? What are his negatives? If he makes it to training camp, I guess we'll see why, but right now it looks like he will be the RB on the practice squad.

RE: DD Terry released
allhaildelrio (6/12/2008)
Does this have an impact on C-4's chance of making the team?

I didn't see his name mentioned in this thread, was he already cut?
He was never signed. He was a nice camp body, and showed some nice things. But, this was not a guy that was going to suddenly crack the top spot, or even find steady playing time on this roster. Odds are pretty good that he won't be wandering too far in the near future, so he could very easily wind up back on the roster. But, let's not make it sound like we've just released a guy that was a significant impact player for the team. He wasn't.

RE: DD Terry released
Stigma (6/11/2008)
One has to wonder if this L. That appears to be one of Cotrone's specialties - and he outweighs Bishop by just over 10 pounds. Bishop seems very slight for such a tall guy (6' 5" and only 248.) Cotrone may only be 6' 2" but he comes in at 260 and is a pounder, which would work out very well as an H back. He's almost a Wrighster clone in size, only a inch shorter and a couple pounds lighter. Plus, as a back, he was never stopped behind the line of scrimmage his last two seasons in college.
Unless he's put on ten pounds and isn't really 248, Bishop has height, but not good size.

RE: DD Terry released

Look at his final 2 games of the season.
44 Att - 466 Yards - 6.0 Avg. - 4 TD
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/players/34911/index.html

It's against Alcorn St and Granbling St, but he must have showed something n those two games.

He's a former Alabama RB who had problems and ended up at Jackson St.
Here is his Proday. http://goallinefootball.com/newsblog/tag/lavarus-giles/

RE: DD Terry released

Bishop may sneak onto the roster. Last year we also picked up a UDFA TE from Nevada, but Pudewell sustained an injury and was out early. I'm not even sure he made it to OTA's.

But to the RB. The Jags just don't need a 3rd down back - whether he has speed or not. Taylor and Drew and Jones and Owens just make it hard for anyone looking for a roster spot. But they could be looking for a big, tough runner to backup Taylor.

Now he just has to be able to stay on the 80-man roster after the Jags start signing their draftees. But I guess they prefer Chauncey's unique combination of power and speed.

Suddenly, Montell Owens looks roster spot becomes all the more secure as well, although there is still a slight chance that Cotrone beats out Owens for the backup FB role leaving Owens to fight with Washington for the 3rd RB spot.

Typically they'd release a player for the sole purpose of adding another play since their roster was full prior to his release. Any word of a new signing? Did a fifth rounder sign early?

RE: DD Terry released

I wasn't really expecting DD to make the team anyway...perhaps his play went beyond fumbling, missing assignments, etc.

RE: DD Terry released

Lavarus Giles had 10 carries for 19 yards in 2006. 87 carries for 514 yards in 2007 with 5 TDs. both seasons with Jackson St. looks like his only significant carries came in their last two games of the 07 season. and he made the most of them.
Looks like coming out of high school he was gonna go to Bama. But ended up at JUCO for 2 years before he ended up at Jackson St.

anyone else see some news on him? Looks like he was signed with Tampa Bay right after the draft.

RE: DD Terry released

Dayum, I wonder if they'll give the "give him a better chance of making another roster" excuse. Vic said Coach Pola was letting him have it for fumbling and missing blocking assignments last week, but I though they were high on the kid.

RE: DD Terry released

I'm surprised, just based on things that were said by Vic and others about how good he looked. I can only speculate that in addition to liking what they saw in terms of talent in this new guy they also liked his size.

RE: DD Terry released

DD Terry, meet Elvis Joseph, Shyron Stith and David Thompson.

DD Terry released

no one else surprised?

I wonder what they saw in two days of Giles they liked more than Terry.
