Which leads to the next question. Who said that Williams is moving to Safety that matters? Other than fan speculation and the fact that he spent some time at Safety during the very first OTA of the new season, who has decided anything at this point?

The reality of this entire situation is that people are saying "you don't pay Florence that type of money to play nickel."

That logic might hold more water if we hadn't paid Brian Williams similar money last year to play RCB.

The team is going to open up the entire process to competition. The best players will fill each role. As of today, there's no depth chart. Nothing has been decided. He spent time at Safety, Nickel, and RCB. Sounds to me like they're keeping their options open.

You know starting safeties don't get paid like starting corners, right? Him agreeing to move to safety will hurt his market value when he gets cut, or forced to renegotiate.

His value goes up if he proves he can play both corner and safety.

TMD, I think you have to look at the whole picture here. Last year, if we lost Rashean for the year, Aaron freaking Glenn would've been our CB. (Saints game)

We have unbelieveable flexibility out there right now. We played over 60% of our defensive snaps in the nickel package. Let's compare the two nickel backfields from a year ago.

2007:

Rashean Cousin Williams

Knight Nelson

2008:

Rashean Williams Florence

Sensabaugh Nelson

That's a major upgrade.

And like I said earlier, it's great to have the insurance policy if any one of the top three corners go down. You can just slide Sensabaugh back to safety and insert Starks (underrated) to the nickel.

It's all about flexibility.

I agree that we can't count out Sensabaugh yet. I mean if the coaching staff didn't believe in him we would still have Deon "my hands are made out of concrete" Grant in our secondary. I personally think he will win the starting job at SS. I honestly think that this organization fell in love with Drayton because he was so productive from the nickel spot.

But it's too early to tell.

Sure, let's overpay for Asante Samuel and trade next year's 1st round pick for Lito Shepherd and Jason Taylor and anyone else we can find, too, while we're at it. Can't have everything. Make do the best we can with what we have. I don't see BW being a downgrade over Sammy Knight, who was servicable at best outside of a few interceptions made via veteran savy rather than athletic skill. Our scheme is not predicated on shut down man cover corners. Florence will be just fine. And let's not forget Sensebaugh in this whole equation. If his shoulders are healed he might still wind up as our SS and then we'd ahve three starting corners on the field for nickel.

I was looking for an article on if Fudge was finishing his degree at UNF or back at Clemson and I found this article with a quote from Brian Williams. No matter what happens, no one can argue that he is showing a great attitude. Some players these days would be crying in the media and good for B-Dub for doing it the right way. :)
