wow, i give 40 much props, he comes with his A game in a correct way. not attacking but interpreting and informing.
-as for this discussion, i don't hate MJ, i just really want the the best for the team. the reason MJ is being discussed so heavily is b/c for once we have at least 7 legit WRs who could make the team contribute and produce. in recent seasons this has not been the case, where MJ could get by with his potential, talent and flashes alone. heck last seasons starting WRs were D. Northcutt and E. Wilford(nothing agaist these guys) but come on, if he couldn't see major playing time with those guys as starters, he was even benched for a little while, due to his coaches decision. its not like he's not a bright young man, he played QB in college which does require some smarts(even though he was an option QB in college). we now we have J. Porter, R. Williams, D. Northcutt, T. Williamson, M. Jones, J. Broussard, M. Walker and the UDFAs all vying for a spot on the roster. i hope we keep 6 WRs, but i understand it will probably be 5. like most i think the 4 spots are already taken by; Porter, Williams, Northcutt and Walker. then are at least 3 guys fighting it out for 1 or maybe 2 spots, Williamson, Jones and Broussard. one scenario is lets say they go 5 and either Williamson or Jones make the spot and the other is cut. that leaves us with Broussard, do u think we can sneak him onto the practice squad, i for one don't think he could make it. there are to many teams who don't have the depth we have, such as oh the Colts, tell me they wouldn't mind a player like him, great speed, good hands and decent route running. he is a Colts type receiver(quick, open and will avoid contact).

But don't you find it interesting that you attack others as "haters" if they want to see someone else get a "legitimate shot" at WR? BL was able to win games at QB. He was able to lead 4th qtr, last second drives as QB. In the clutch he came through. Now whether you personally, in a purely subjective view, didn't think BL had talent, his production proved otherwise. As for MJ, he has so underproduced that he couldn't retain a starting spot. Again, his agent used the media to note MJ would want a trade. The question isn't whether the talent is there. The question is whether the heart is there. MJ may have a ton more talent than Ernest Wilford but EW maximized what he had and made it into a bigger payday. The only thing I get from the defense of your position is that you like MJ so much you're willing to let the team suffer to ensure MJ gets as many chances as he needs to prove himself.

That you would characterize BL as a "zero talent" player provides evidence that you aren't objective. To note him as "egotistical" shows that it is personal. Since you have taken a personal tone to BL, how is it that when someone "hates" on MJ you call them out? It shouldn't matter whether BL is egotistical or not. That is a personal attack on BL's character\personality and that is exactly what you ostricize those who don't like MJ for. Simply because I or someone else wants MJ off the team because we don't like his work ethic or his attitude doesn't make us haters any more than you are a BL hater. You thought someone could play his position better. You felt his time was up to prove himself. There is no difference between that opinion and our opinion of MJ. Unless he manages to play at the level warranted of a 1st round draft pick, and that includes the practice field, he needs to be let go so someone else has a chance to prove themself.[/quote]

Getting back on topic, I noticed recent video on the main site. At one point he starts talking about his high expectations for Jerry Porter because he "makes great plays" He goes on talking about how he has expectations for other WRs to make great plays as well, and in particular he mentions Reggie Williams, Dennis Northcutt and Troy Williamson. I find this somewhat telling of how the early WR battle might be shaping up. Now Mike Walker does have a lock on his roster spot, but if they were to start the season today I'm thinking their WR line-up might look like...

Jerry Porter
Reggie Williams
Dennis Northcutt
Troy Williamson
Mike Walker

During camp, or possibly later during the season, I expect Walker to move up these charts. It wouldn't surprise me if one way or another he ends up in a starting role for the 2009 season.

Honestly, if Leftwich was 20 years earlier he probably would have been a good Qb for a while. I think some people are moving too far toward Vick/Young etc in the running QB category, but it looks like the days of Drew Bledsoe type QBs(like Leftwich) are coming to a close.

We would and we did. Byron had an outstanding arm. He could throw the ball better than Garrard, and still can, and he was incredibly smart with an uncanny ability to see downfield. He wasn't released for a lack of talent. He was let go because his limited athleticism prevented him from rolling out and making things happen with his feet. For the people earlier in the thread that said they hated him his rookie year, I was the exact opposite. He made some great plays as a rookie and I thought that was just the surface of his potential. Everybody loved him starting with that catch against Miami in the preseason game of '05.

I think getting rid of him now would be a mistake. Make him earn the roster spot and I think everything will work itself out. He pisses me off sometimes, but he is still a Jaguar and I will root for him no matter what.

2. You didn't phrase that as something that could be a hindrance. Furthermore, what RW does has no bearing on MJ. If MJ plays better, MJ gets the nod and based on past experience MJ was given every opportunity to maintain a starting position.

Is that agenda driven or production driven? It is well documented that RW works harder than MJ and that work paid off in RW having a fine season w\10 TDs and playing in every game save week 1.

Your argument, the "wait and see" argument, is fine and fair, however by offering up the roster spot you take it away from someone else. If my option is to sign a DE or DT or OT that has potential and that means cutting someone who do I look to? The player that underperforms and lacks a respected work ethic. Coaches note it, players note it and yet you would have the team continue to work with "Jesus Jones" in order to maximize that potential. What an utterly ridiculous and counter-productive position to take from, at the very least, a business stand point.

I pay to be entertained by this team, and hence my money is a component of his salary. If he isn't performing I don't want my dollars in his pocket. As a human being I would love for this kid to show what we all hoped he would.
