I think that the way that the team currently uses it is just about perfect.

Like you stated, a professional football player isn't really going to learn or develop a lot of necessary skills in the drill, but the organization uses it to not only make a statement to the team that full contact has started, but they also use it to involve the fans and provide a spectacle.

If they did the drill all night, then I think that it's a waste of time, but the way that they do it, to signal the start of full pads practice, is pretty cool.[/quote]

No doubt that is why the Jags do it and I close my eyes every time they do it. The only thing that can come out of it is negatives in the form of injuries. Just an unnecessary risk imo.

Yeah, but he was pretty much set up to fail for that. Landri, a player that relies on his quicks and surprising the O-Lineman was up against Manuwai, a guy whose game is based on power. You know that there is no way that a rookie is going to be prepared for how fast a 4 year veteran OG is.

Once Vinny locked onto him, he might as well have gotten a Coke for the ride.[/quote]

Not really. It's more about setting the tone for the first day of practices in pads. It's more for the fans than the players.

However, the way the Jaguars use it, it's an outstanding tool to inject energy into the camp and get players to work harder in general.

Absolutely...even though it proves nothing, the fans look forward to it (and probably the players). It's a tradition that Jack has established and there's absolutely nothing wrong with a fun, fan-friendly Jaguar tradition that proves nothing.
