Given the play of David Garrard should the Jags consider selling out in the 2009 draft and moving up to draft one of these Jr Qbs? Personally I am thinking more in terms of Mark Sanchez or Sam Bradford rather the Gator or the Dog.

Here is an article by Todd McShay about the top Jr QBs with their strengths and weaknesses.

Juniors shouldn't even be thinking about the 2009 NFL draft at this point. Still, it's hard not to notice the building story line that is the exceptionally gifted 2010 quarterback class. Considering no senior signal-caller currently appears worthy of a first-round draft choice, the temptation for some of these underclassmen to leave school early could be tough to resist. Here's an early look at what could be the NFL's next generation of star gunslingers, whenever they decide to come out.

1. Matthew Stafford, Georgia
Positives: Prototypical NFL quarterback size. Continues to improve with experience and is not blessed with a great supporting cast. Shows quick feet and can buy some time as a passer. Also possesses an absolute riffle for an arm; nobody in the college game can fit the ball into tight spots like Stafford can.
Negatives: Forces some throws and makes too many mental mistakes when the pocket is collapsing around him.

2. Sam Bradford, Oklahoma
Positives: Tall and athletically gifted. Most accurate passer in college football today.
Negatives: Needs to fill out his frame a bit and prove he's capable of holding up physically for a full season.

3. Mark Sanchez, USC
Positives: Might be the most physically gifted quarterback of the Pete Carroll era at USC. Possesses quick feet, a quick release, good overall accuracy and a strong arm. Also loves to study film.
Negatives: Must improve his touch underneath and continue to limit forced throws.

4. Tim Tebow, Florida
Positives: Big, strong and mobile. Exceptional intangibles and a gritty competitor. Possesses good arm strength and can throw accurately on the move.
Negatives: Fair or unfair, he will draw some comparisons to Alex Smith, whose transition from Urban Meyer's offense to the NFL has been anything but smooth. Tebow must improve his consistency reading coverage. Also has a bit of an unorthodox delivery.

And he's not that big. He's 6'1 on a good day. Plus he's in an all misdirection system. Rarely do they actually throw the ball down field. I say PS player at best.[/quote]

What about Chase Daniels from Missouri? He is not very big, but a QB does not HAVE to have prototypical size to be successful. Daniels is about the same size as Drew Brees right?

I like Riley Skinner, but I don't think he's got starter potential.

I also like Max Hall at BYU and Daniel. Daniel DOES remind me of Brees. He's a gamer. I know the success rate for short QBs isn't that great, but how many of them even get a shot? I'd love to grab Daniel in the middle rounds.

He is tough to project, because the offense is so QB friendly.

Chase Daniel is listed as 6'0", but I highly doubt that, I would bet he's 5'10" or 5'11" but he is a winner and he's a leader so I'd like to take a shot at him in the later rounds

I frigin LOVE Chase Daniel.

It is Dave Christiansen's offense that makes him look THAT good (that and he has the best WR in the nation on the roster), but I like Daniels. I'd take a mid-round flier on him at this point. Never know, he could be another Brees.

I too am intigued by Josh Freeman

My favorite QB Draft Prospect is Ball State Jr. Nate Davis

and my favorite Sr., although he is not a prototype NFL QB, is Chase Daniel because he'll probably go around rounds 5 or 6 and we could take a flyer on him, but I like him just because he is a winner, his leadership, and just that swagger about him

Freeman's only thrown 2 picks all year. I mean, his best WR is a 5'7" 145lbs dude.

That was by far Cantwell's best game. He's not even completing 60% in their pass offense.

I saw no concerns with Cantwell's delivery. He was scanning the field and finding the open man and seemed to be very accurate. I see no similarity to Byron's delivery. I liked what I saw.

If people had problems with Byron Leftwich's wind up... Cantwell's is exponentially worse. He looks like he's taking the ball out of his back pocket to throw it.

I think Josh Freeman is an interesting prospect, though.

I thought that Hunter Cantwell of Louisville played very well last night. He could fall to the middle of Rd 3 and might not be a bad acquisition for the Jags.

I think Colt McCoy will be terrible in the NFL. He benefits from being on a talent rich team stocked with RB's and OLineman. I've never been impressed with him.

Im a little skeptical of Stafford as well. What Stafford really needed to improve upon was his accuracy. he still misses some passes but his comp% has definitely improved. at least so far. lets see how he does when he gets into the bulk of conference play.

Hey I agree with you about Young. His entire college career he was less than mediocre. 26 TDs and 10 INTs is just sad at the college level.

I just don't see NFL talent when I watch Stafford against good defenses. It could be the WRs.. but...

He has accuracy...wide outs just don't get separation deep. He has improved every season in the completion % cat. That is always a very very good, telling statistic in a quarterback and his accuracy...especially as that completion % gets into the mid 60% area...

You have to take it in context, as well. Vince Young ran a zone read offense and a large majority of the team receptions came on short pass plays...hence the relatively high completion percentage. When he was drafted, I was on here saying his numbers were inflated and he wasn't all that accurate. He is accurate on the short stuff, especially when he doesn't have to make numerous reads, but overall, he doesn't have a great deep ball accuracy (lacks zip and touch...he has a [i]strong[/i] arm however) and doesn't have nearly the accuracy on a pass to complete NFL level intermediate passes. He also struggles with the out cut...mostly because he lacks zip on a pass.

Stafford runs a much more NFL oriented offense (or one that would show NFL style passes). His completion % would actually be much higher if he had better wide outs that didn't drop balls and ran better routes. He shows good touch and fantastic zip. He can make NFL throws, just not the 5 yard curl or TE crossing route like Vince did.

QB's out of places like USC where they get so much talent always put me off.

I remember him in the bowl game last season against Purdue. Pretty good play is LeFevour.

I am the same way with USC QB's, Leinart is a perfect example. Sanchez though to me seems different, not sure how, just does.

Maybe the confidence though comes from knowing what he has around him. He does look good though.
