But, I think it would be offense, not defense.
At safety, Sammy Knight has been replaced with the transition of Brian Williams and backed up with the return of Gerald Sensabaugh. Another aging veteran stop gap player, such as Sammy Knight, is not needed. The 4th safety will be a young developmental safety that can contribute to special teams this year.

If it is determined that Wrighster and Estandia are not back to full 100% health at camp, it would not surprise me to see Jack/Shack bring in a vet backup for Lewis at TE. Tight end will be an important role in Koetter's offense with Garrard, and Angulo is not the answer. I don't think they'll pay the coinage for a talent such as Shockey, but look for the 2nd tier vet.

At WR...Will Porter's repaired hamstring be ready for the season? Will Walker's knee hold up without swelling to fulltime playing and hitting? Will Williamson's impressive hands in practice vanish when the hits become live? Will Jone's improve and not get cut (or suspended)? If during camp at least 2 of these questions appear to be "no", then it would not surprise me to see another WR acquired to the roster.

RE: Are Jags Content?
rfc17 (7/20/2008)

The Mad Dog (7/18/2008)
S Greg Wesley is now a FA and I'd certainly rather have him as a backup than Pierson Prioleau.

Wesley could be this year's version of Sammy Knight.
Is Prioleau even gonna make the team? Are there any players out there you feel the Jags may be looking at? Is the Jason Taylor trade talks and rumors now over with the drafting of two DEs? What about Terrell Suggs? He didn't sign a long term deal with the Ravens. He was given the franchise tag this season and could be given it again, but the Ravens would have to give him an additional 20% raise next year on $8 million this year. That would mean his 2009 salary would be $9.6 mil. Likewise, with CB Nnamdi Asomugha in Oakland? He would be solid on the opposite end of Mathis and Florence could be the best nickle in the NFL. And what about disgruntled NYC TEs Chris Baker and Jeremy Shockey? Any chance we may see them wearing teal and black this season? I'm concerned about Wrighster's health. He always seems to be getting banged up. Either one of those two would make a nice complement to Marcedes Lewis. Got any other names you'd like to throw out there?
