Walter Football has the Jags taking DT Peria Jerry (the guy you have us taking in the 6th) in the first round. So who is way off? I don't know anything about the guy.

BTW, Walter Football has us picking at #31 in the first round---guess we are Super Bowl bound! They have the Giants picking #32.

Here are my picks:

Rd 1(32): Eugene Monroe - OT - Virginia

I think that the Jags may allow Khalif Barnes to test free agency just as they did with Mo. Williams. If they do, then the team will be counting on Richard Collier to take the starting spot. The Jags will eyeball this OLT from Virginia who just happened to be good enough to keep Brandon Albert at the OLG position.

Rd 2(64): Jonathan Luigs - OC/OG - Arkansas

Just as the Jags targeted the DE position in the 2008 draft, the Jags will target the OL in the 2009 draft. Luigs will be groomed to be the heir apparent to Brad Meester's OC spot.

Rd 3(96): Mike Hamlin - SS - Clemson

Jags take a SS that has good ball-hawk skills.

Rd 4(128): Pannell Egboh - DE - Stanford

Big LDE prospect to push Mincey and Wyche and who knows maybe even Paul Spicer or Reggie Hayward.

Rd 5(160): Dannell Ellerbe - LB - Georgia

Jags grab an active LB to push for a roster spot.

Rd 6(192): Bear Pascoe - TE - Fresno State

Jags grab another big target for Garrard.

Given the players available where that mock has us picking, I'd go:

1. (25) Ciron Black, OT, LSU - This is assuming they want to replace Barnes, and I don't see the need to go CB in Round 1.
2. (57) Patrick Chung, S, Oregon - Even if Williams moves to SS, Sensabaugh is an UFA at the end of the season and the Jaguars lack depth at S.
3. (89) Cornelius Ingram, TE, UF - The exact type of TE the Jaguars look for. Very athletic, strong hands, and a threat down the seam.
4. (121) Tony Carter, CB, FSU - I see him going higher when it rolls closer to draft time and he does his work outs because he should impress a lot with them. Needs to add some weight, but a very good cover corner.
5. (153) Mitch King, DE/DT, Iowa - King is a lot like Derek Landri and he's played both DE and DT for the Hawkeyes. He is a very high motor guy, while undersized, could spell players all along the defensive line.
6. (185) Stephen McGee, QB, Texas A&M - Very underrated QB IMHO who has been forced into playing a terrible system. He's an athletic tough kid with a good arm.

4th DT on Board. Could be a dominant force in the Jags DT rotation.

Rd 2(64): Pannel Egboh - DE - Stanford - 6'6" 282 lbs 4.86/40

LDE candidate who had 49 TT, 13.5 TFL and 6 sacks in 2007.

Rd 3(96): Antoine Caldwell - OC - Alabama - 6'3" 295 lbs 5.09/40

Eventual replacement for Brad Meester.

Rd 4(130): Chris Clemons - S - Clemson - 6'1" 210 lbs 4.46/40

Another candidate to upgrade the Safety position.

Rd 5(165): Brennan Marion - WR - Tulsa - 6'1" 185 lbs 4.42/40

39 catches for 1244 Yards for 31.9 YPC Average and 11 TD in 2007. Jags bring in Tulsa's Big Play WR to pair with Paul Smith, his QB in 2007.

Utility LB that can play all three LB positions.

yea thats true, those colleges love to fudge numbers of their players. but in Alphonso's defense, at a Nike Camp in high school he was measured at 5'9. not sure how trustworthy that number is but Id be surprised if theyd fudge.

ya know going off topic here but you joked about trying out yourself. i always hear people say that basketball players are the best athletes in the world. but i never bought that. how many guys do you honestly know that are like 6'6 or better yet 6'10? i only know a handful. but when you look at the NFL, you see a lot of skill position players that are 6 ft tall or shorter. and the vast majority of men in this country are that height. so you are talking about the best athletes from a much larger pool of possibilities. anyways...just a random thought.

thatll definitely hurt his stock but i doubt he falls this far unless he runs a slow 40. lito sheppard went 1st round at 5-10. DeAngelo Hall was barely 5-10 and was a top 10 pick. pacman jones was 5-9 and he was a top 10 pick. Tye Hill was 5-9 and a 1st rounder.

i think a good comparison with Smith is our own draft pick Trae Williams. if Williams had run a better 40, he would have gone top 3 rounds. before all the postseason bowl games and workouts, Williams was considered a 2nd round and maybe 3rd. he measured short and then ran a bad 40 time for a CB. You may be right, but he seemed even shorter than what was listed. We all know how colleges love to inflate stats of their players. That being said, he does have a god vertical and really gets up after the ball. To be honest, I didn't realize all those players you listed are about my size. Maybe I'll try out. :D

Wow, Stigma. You can predict how many sacks these guys have in 2008 already? You are good.

I admit I don't know enough about next year's prospects to even attempt an intelligent mock. However, even I know Matt Stafford should be where Tim Tebow is listed as the 2nd overall pick on that guys mock draft (not Stigma's). Tebow most likely won't come out next year, and even if he did Stafford, who is more likely to go Pro, will be ranked higher.
