i dont know how many times this has been stressed but the guy is a work horse. give him the ball more. every time he touches it he gets positive outcomes. at times i feel alot of defenders are scared to tackle the guy. im sure theyve seen the tapes of him bulldozing guys over. GIVE GREG JONES THE BALL MORE

I agree. GIVE MAURICE DREW AND FRED TAYLOR THE BALL LESS

think about what you're saying.

We all know Greg is good. That's not the point. You're talking about taking away carries from better players to give him more. It's a balancing act enough as it is already.

You tell me, what would you rather have?

Maurice Drew/Fred Taylor running the ball with pro-bowl quality FB Greg Jones blocking.

Or Greg Jones running the ball with Montel Owens blocking and your two best players on the sideline (or unnaturally lined up at receiver).

good post.

while Jones may be a beast, he's only good in moderation as far as running the ball goes. lay down a heavy dose of MJD and Freddy, then grind out the tough yards and/or dump passes with Greg Jones if he's the most viable option on that specific play.

I remember the year before we drafted MJD Greg Jones was Fred Taylor's backup. I thought drafting another running back in the second round was stupid when we did not need one at all. Then in preseason Greg tore a knee ligament and I was glad to see the short guy we drafted out of UCLA. Now how will Greg get the ball when we have two good running backs already?

I see what you're saying, at least situationally, but the problem is Greg Jones doesn't do anything situationally better than anyone else does in front of him.

Greg Jones is a great power, assuredly short-yardage/goal line runner (at least that's what he seems like). And what is Maurice Drew? The same thing, but better. It's hard to justify giving carries to Greg in situations instead of Maurice.

Also keep in mind when Greg Jones is at FB and Maurice or Fred is at RB, the play action has a lot more options.

A playaction pass with Maurice and Greg on the field means two great receiving/after the catch guys that can be thrown to.

Actually there is one situation when Greg is better than MJD: When Drew can't play at all and is listed as "out" on the injury report. If that ever happens, give the balls to Fred first, then Greg to mix it up.

Did Walker fly with the team to Denver? I never saw him on the sideline or heard he stayed home.

I dunno about that. MoJo, as much as I love him, has his fair share of struggles at the goalline. Everytime Greg gets his chance, he plows it in. I've been calling for more Greg Jones in the redzone for a while. Besides, you could hand it off to him while he's lined up at FB for some "trickery" anyway.

Alba has a brain.

What's a guy supposed to do with that? Math?

Err... struggles on the goal line?

Goal line is a tough place to run for everyone. Maurice has never failed to convert a touchdown on the goal line when asked to (except for one time he fumbled on the goal line). A lot of the times we just use him in playaction on the goal line because he's such a good short-yardage back.

Maurice is small (height wise), tough and strong. He's perfect for the goal line. They even gave the ball to him like 4 straight times on the goal line against the Chargers last season, they had that much faith in him. He's great on the goal line. He's great in short yardage. He is the team's redzone back for a reason, and he is on a record pace for touchdowns.

Except KO the guys trying to tackle him.  Didn't he knock a Denver safety out?
