| | Everyone knew the Vikings player who forced a fumble grabbed the facemask as he took the ball out of the Saints player's hand. ESPN replayed it many times. Why did that penalty go unnoticed by the officials? Mike Tirico smartly pointed out fans just blame the referee for everything even when someone else should have seen it so it really was not Ed Hochuli's fault. That is true because referees stand behind one of the guards to watch the quarterback. If the head linesman, back judge, field judge, side judge, and umpire do not see a penalty, the referee will not know about it and call the foul. That was what happened when a face mask went uncalled - the black cap official responsible for watching the ball carrier and defender forcing a fumble is to blame for no face mask being flagged. That said, why wasn't that face mask foul seen by the official who ruled it a fumble? I can't imagine how anybody can see the fumble and not the face mask because the same player did both at the same time. OK, so the official did not throw a flag when it was completely obvious a face mask penalty should have been called. Knowing only a blind or stupid person can not see that after ESPN replayed it and it is not a judgement call, why do rules prevent the penalty from being reviewed? Twelve men on the field and illegal forward pass both are reviewable penalties, so why not face mask, which is 15 yards every time? If a defensive player does it, that penalty results in a first down for the offense. It was a critical play because the face mask grabber also forced a fumble and Minnesota's next move allowed the Vikings to keep the ball. If the penalty had been flagged the Saints would have kept the ball and gained 15 yards and a first down. So I think all face mask penalties should be reviewable because they can affect team possession and possibly the score, which that one did. Can anybody explain this stupid rule regarding what is and is not reviewable? I plan on proposing this to the NFL competition committee if possible.

| I wonder if the Saints get fined for this one. They can't complain about the calls, but on their home page of their web-site a big picture of it there.

The calls will never be perfect, ever. Unless they review every play, which is what a lot of people who want the calls replayed.

| Hochuli has had a rough start to his season.

| | Nobody said the NFL will fine a team for uploading a photo of an uncalled facemask. The NFL issues fines to coaches and players who directly criticize officials about it. Sean Payton would lose money over something like, "The side judge acted like he is blind by ignoring the face mask." I don't see the Saints getting fined for a website's photograph. Ed Hochuli was too busy worrying about the Saints and Vikings to think about what he did in Denver. He did what I am used to seeing him do - make the right calls and explain his rulings. The only game he really screwed up in so far was San Diego and Denver.

| Its Meier Time (10/7/2008) Because five hour games would suck.Reviews are limited to one minute. Coaches are only allowed to challenge twice (or, if they win both times, thrice) and even then must have a timeout available when a review is needed. There is no way a game will last five hours because of those NFL replay rules. So what's your point?

We won in Pit possibly because of a missed penalty.

| We won in Pittsburgh because Rashean Mathis intercepted Ben Roethlsberger.
