zackattack99 (9/7/2008) The AFC East is now up for grabs. The Jets and Bills have a good shot at winning that division now. I don't know if the Patriots can get to the playoffs with their backup QB.Pats will be playing for top 5 pick. Time will tell what type of season the Patriots have under this extremely challenging situation for them. What stands out though is the Patriots still have a 20 game winning streak in the regular season. Never has a winning streak felt less secure than this one. Here's hoping that Tom Brady makes a full recovery. A tremendous talent, who has provided plenty of enjoyment for me as a football fan. Kassel didnt look too bad replacing him... And he does still have Randy Moss and Welker to throw to. He was taking all the snaps in camp and preseason games so who knows..... If he can manage a game ala Garrard 2007 then the Pats will still be up there just not 50+ points a week up there. |

| Good thoughts, boudreaumw. Though by no means am I implying that Matt Cassel will be another Tom Brady, I think to the 2001 season when then 2nd year QB Tom Brady replaced the injured Drew Bledsoe in the Patriots 2nd game of the season. The Patriots were 0-2 after that loss to the Jets. Then ended up winning the Super Bowl. Though the chances of Matt Cassel performing close to level of Brady are slim, like you mentioned the 2008 Patriots are very talented. Especially on Offense. It would be a mistake to totally count them out. On top of everything, this is a very well coached team.

| | Is the Lombardi Trophy going to come with a disclaimer engraved on it this season? Disclaimer: Though your team won the Super Bowl, most of what you accomplished this season was facilitated by the fact the Tom Brady was injured.

| | My thought is will Brady ever be the QB he was before the injury? Too many times a QB will not be. Many QB's become tentative after a debilitating injury. Regards.............the Chiefjag

| This truly sucks. I spent a 5th overall pick on Brady in fantasy leagues.
Oh well, micheal turner and his 220 yard rushing day with 2 td's will have to carry the load this season

| Kind of puts the Jags "sky is falling" situation into a different perspective huh?

| I am of the belief that the patriots have an excellent system and talent base in place and that almost any QB can step in and perform well. Likewise I don't think Brady is the greatest QB ever or even in the top 5. IMO he is the first NFL system QB.

If what you're saying is true, then Belechick is an even better coach than most people give him credit for (in spite of the cheating).

As much as I hate the Pats I can admit that Belechick is one of the best coaches ever. His ability to win with inferior talent, exempting last year, is unreal. I'm talking about the time of his first Super Bowl win.
