OK, don't let my nickname fool you, I am a Razorback , have been for more than 50 years, two degrees from there, grew up in town Matt played in, et cetera.

Those of us who saw what he did in college knew that he was a very special talent (and yes,I can remember Lance Alworth). We saw him carry the FB team on his back and be starting for the bb team the next week.  We saw the heart he had ON the fb field, look at the 7 overtime game with Ole Miss if you ever have a chance.  It is rare when I meet an LSU fan that they  do not say that they occasionally have a nightmare in which Matt comes back for one more year.

Having said all that, it has been a mystery to me that he only showed flashes of talent in his first three years.  It was also a mystery that he looked and seemed soft.  No one in Arkansas was suprised that he does not like to practice, but prior to the NFL, he could get a way with that because of his talent.

Hopefully, all the talk that he was done and his recent jailhouse experience has lit a fuse and he will begin to use his abilities and contribute to the Jags offense.  He has given me a lot of thrills over the years and I am hoping for 7-8 more.  Maybe even Vic will become a believer.

Thanks for putting up with us on this board.

.... Most of the Jag board guru's just became nauseas, and then resentful, of our naive pontifications.
....(Thanks Rodney)

Though I'm not one of the Gurus, I prefer to think I became nauseated and had to stop reading the posts. Now that I'm well inoculated, I don't become nauseous (or nauseated), when I read all the wonderful things that Jones is capable of. I understand. I was never resentful of the pontifications because I have better things to be resentful of: i.e. the IRS. And I do become nauseous/nauseated when I think of that particular institution also. *That* is nauseating.

Btw. At the risk of creating more nausea, I think Jones is the best receiver on the roster (right now) and when Porter comes on board Garrard will light up the place. I can't wait for those two (plus Williams can't forget him). It's going to be fun to watch.

I find it funny that no one has mentioned anything about Matt actually tackling the guy who picked the ball off. Two years ago he just pushed the guy who picked it off....I see development...lol

Matt Jones was the only player making plays on offense yesterday, so I dont see why anybody would knock the guy. And also, for now, his cocaine bust hasnt seemed to get him into any real trouble yet with the NFL. And the whole thing with him being this and that despite being a first round pick. Didnt Reggie Williams vastly improve during his third year? Maybe it's Matt Jones turn now?

Please note that I am a Matt Jones supporter, and have been since he joined this team. My post above regarding his tackle was in no way a knock on him, just though it was funny that after the game 2 years ago, people talked about him not making the tackle. Now, when he does make the tackle, no one mentions it.

LETS GO JAGS!!!!!

Eh, Matt made some nice catches.  On the other hand, MJD made a couple nice plays.  There's a difference - being a playmaker involves getting more out of the play than you should have or more than you expected to.  Matt got the job done, but nothing special/extra.  Had he pulled down the overthrown ball, I would have considered that making a play.

Regardless, it really doesn't mean alot when so much went wrong in so many other ways.

You're right. I didn't even notice it, but I think it definitely shows improvement, as does his catch over the middle.

He's not my favorite player, but there's no denying the fact that he's stepped it up this year and played like a real NFL receiver this week. Keep it up, Matt. We need some people to step up their games right now.

People have a need to knock someone, even if they actually had a solid game.

I had a discussion with someone earlier today that pretty much mirrored this thread.  He too feels that the one Garrard interception was on Jones.  Knowing that route running is NEVER going to be a strong point for a guy his size, I think that trying to use that as a way of blaming him for the interception when David was pushing the pass into coverage is unfair.  It was a play where the defender made a good play and won.  Matt Jones had as much to do with the interception as I did.

I heard a caller on one of the morning shows actually say "Yeah, Matt had a good game, but he still acts like he doesn't care based on how he just sort of trots back to the huddle between plays."

He's the new Byron Leftwich for some folks.  It doesn't matter if he does well.  He's going to be bashed regardless because we've got some fans that can't think of anything else to do with their free time.

Matt really impressed me yesterday. I never bashed him. I wanted shack to get this guy, so I would be a hypocrite to bash him.

I think we all see what a little patience with a player can do.

Go Matt!

I disagree. DG throws the ball at the cut to a point that the WR is suppose to get to. Matts cut was bad, and yes he is not the greatest route runner but DG has to trust that the WR is going to get there. Quick drop passes have to be that way. Rounding that cut didn't help DG. Both player share responsiblity.

You are talking about DG, right?
