| Jags' latest offer to Harvey might not get deal done Tuesday, August 19, 2008 | Print Entry The Jaguars slightly improved their offer to unsigned first-round choice Derrick Harvey, but the adjustment may only worsen the negotiations. According to a source, the Jacksonville upped its offer on a five-year base deal from $21 million to $23 million. They added a little less than $400,000 to get the guarantee to a little less than $17.2 million. The max package is now at $33 million, $16 million less than the deal given to Sedrick Ellis, who was drafted one spot ahead of Harvey, a source said. Here's what you wonder: Why did the Jaguars trade into the No. 8 spot to get a pass rusher when they could have stayed at their spot and taken an offensive tackle? For years, teams resisted trading into the top 10 because of the high costs of signing those picks. Under the rookie system, it does seem crazy to pay $5 million a year on the base pay for an unproven rookie pass rusher, but proven pass rushers are now getting twice that amount in contract extensions. It's going to take more than $25 million over five years to get this deal done. Speaking his mind: Jaguars defensive end Paul Spicer was critical of Harvey's holdout. Spicer is one of the leaders of the team. His speaking out on the subject does show that this holdout will damage the locker room. First of all, it's bad policy for a teammate to stick his nose into the financial deals of another player. It's also interesting that it was Spicer who spoke out. He's a defensive end. Harvey's a defensive end. Aren't they competing for the same playing time? Get rid of this scrub, he is not worth it A DISGRACE |

Harvey's a defensive end. Aren't they competing for the same playing time? Get rid of this scrub, he is not worth it A DISGRACE First of all, who are you talking about? This blurb mentions two players, and neither one is a scrub, or a disgrace. The Jaguars have adjusted their offer. If the rumors are true that the difference between the two sides is over a million dollars, they've split the difference. They're not going to go any higher than they absolutely have to, and the deal that they're offering is fair market value for his draft spot. At some point, Harvey will sign. When that happens is irrelevant. It will happen before the season starts because he nor his agent will be prepared to miss out on an NFL pay check each week during the season. They can't afford to. The only thing worse than an agent getting a bad deal for his client is an agent sitting on his hands and letting a deal fall apart, leaving his client without a job. Kremer isn't going to let that happen because he's got future clients to bring into the fold. The Jaguars knew precisely what it was going to cost the team to go up and get Harvey. This is not a dumb group that makes these decisions. They're simply not going to buckle and overspend on a player because some internet blurb thinks they should. They have a bottom line to deal with, and the dollars that they spend on players are real dollars, not Monopoly money. They've dug in and made it clear that they're willing to pay market value for the position. They've established what they believe that value to be. And they're ready to sign him at any time he's willing to accept that. The fact that they bumped up their offer slightly is actually a good thing as it shows that they're willing to sweeten the pot a bit in order to get the deal done. All that does is make Harvey and Kremer look worse when they turn it down. As far as Spicer commenting on the financial situation of another player, there's no other guy on that roster more qualified to talk about getting paid for performance.

| The only bright spot of this whole mess, is this trade to get this guy might be the straw that broke the camels back for Harris.
This hopefully will be the last horrid first round decision that he makes for us.
Congratulations to the 2008 WORLD Champions, your Philadelphia Phillies!

shacks best offseason??
Porter has yet to make camp/ 30 ML/ 10 MIL gauranteed....
They backed up the brinks truck for a CB whose prior team/ fans are laughing at us for & apparently not missing him at all.....
We traded almost our entire draft for a player who is STILL a holdout and was expected to be the difference in the pass rush this year - deny it all you want, but you dont make a deal like that unless you envsion the player making an impact fast.
They overpay for a backup who wasn't even as good s the guy he is replacing. Lemon is arguably not even as good as Brunell, even at current....& Brunell could have been got cheap.
If this was one of Shacks "better" offseasons, no wonder I cannot stand the job he's done.
Congratulations to the 2008 WORLD Champions, your Philadelphia Phillies!

The record stands on its own, and that is something you simply can't stand. The team has one of the best winning records over the past 5 seasons, and that has to really put your diva thong in a bind. Again, nobody cares what you think. Sooner or later you'll get that and perhaps you'll impale yourself with leg #3. Now, quick, go sign in as Emo to cover yourself, whimp.

TMD didnt even know who williamson, porter, and florence were before the jags signed them.. then, he quickly went and googled the first thing that came up on each.
florence was the best CB on his team, better than #5 overall pick jammer was for the first 3 years there, last year, was not his best year. Porter is the best WR on this team, and williamson simply was a speed upgrade at the least for a pick that wouldnt make the team.
I bet my little sister knows more about football than TMD, no one should even respond to him at all. his football knowledge is about the size of his... well, you get the picture. very small
Rashean the I-N-T Machine Mathis- best CB in the game
TMD's "predictions" so far for 08 season:
-Minnesota and Philly in the NFC championship game with Minnesota in the Superbowl
-Denver Broncos in the AFC championship game
-Houston a top 5 rushing team in the 09 season
-Houston seeded higher in the playoffs than the jags
- jags finishing 9-7 at best
- Browns finish better than the Jags
-Jags finish last in the AFC South after a bad showing in the preseason
TMD and I have a bet for $100 on the Jags wins
-Denver winning the AFC West LOL
-Bengals over Jags 24-21

Yet, you do, everytime, all the time. Usually multiple times.
Also, you're about to lose $100 to the equivalent of your little sister. ROFL!
