| | OK, so perhaps the Jags did not draft the best players in Rd 1 since JDR became the Head Coach in 2003. If you could go back in time who would you pick with the Rd 1 selection from the 2003 draft through the 2008 draft? Here are my selections: 2003 - Terrell Suggs - DE 2004 - Ben Roelisthberger - QB 2005 - Roddy White - WR 2006 - DeMeco Ryans - OLB 2007 - Reggie Nelson - FS 2008 - Derrick Harvey - DE |

In case anyone needs a clue.
Pick a number between 1 and 100, Add 52, Now subtract 7, Add 4, Subtract 13, Subtract the number you started with, Divide by 2, Add 7, Multiply by 4 then subtract 9 ... Viola there's your clue.

| If every team redid their first round picks, we probably wouldn't have Rashean Mathis, Daryl Smith, Maurice Jones-Drew or Justin Durant.

| probably not, but it is interesting about the Leftwich pick. If the Vikings hadnt taken so long, we may not have been able to grab Lefty. and if we had taken Suggs, pretty good chance we take Roethlisberger the next year. but then again, if we had take Suggs, we may not have drafted in the same spot.

| | 2003 - Troy Polalamu - DB 2004 - Ben Roelisthberger - QB 2005 - Heath Miller - TE 2006 - Devin Hester - DB/KR/WR 2007 - Dwayne Bowe - WR 2008 - Ryan Clady - OT Mine would look something like this. Yeah, the Steelers had some pretty good picks while we were drafting our busts.

| I have been dying to do this:
2003 - Terrell Suggs DE
This guy, along with Stroud and Henderson, solidifies the Defensive Line for the next 5 years. Can you imagine the Defensive Line in 2005 with Suggs, Henderson, Stroud, and Hayward? Honestly, and without the teal-colored glasses on at all, that would have probably been the best starting front four in the league.
2004 - Ben Roethlisberger QB
Easily the best fit for our club at QB. He's a smart, strong QB with some mobility. He has had a bit of durability issues, but he plays big in big games.
2005 - Heath Miller TE
The class of the TE's, this just might be one of the hardest players to find;a three down TE that never has to leave the field. He is developing a nice rapport with Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh, wouldn't it be nice if they did that wearing teal?
2006 - Demeco Ryans/Marcedes Lewis LB/TE
While I agree that Ryans has racked up some monster numbers from the MLB spot in Houston, his numbers went down last season, and it's not like we have ever had a problem moving the ball against the Houston Defense since he has been around. Maybe my homerism is starting to come through, but I really think that M. Lewis is going to be a top-notch football player for us. If you work backwards, can you imagine the sets that you can run if you have both H. Miller and M. Lewis on the field at the same time? Wow.
2007 & 2008 N/A
I think it's still a little too early to judge, but I just have to say that A. Carriker would have been awesome on this Defense.
Go heavy early.

You would draft a TE in Rd 1 in back to back years (2005 - Miller / 2006 - Lewis)? I think that Roddy White is just coming into his own and in my mind would have to be the pick in 2005 especially if he had Roethlisberger throwing to him. I can see the argument for Marcedes over DeMeco in 2006. |

Chooch (8/13/2008) Another well thought out, insightful, witty, and incredibly intelligent post by Chooch. Isn't he just the greatest? I mean, whenever I think quality posting on a message board, I think of Chooch!

I would do that, provided that I get to pick the rest of the draft my way as well. If I got to do that, I'm pretty sure that I could get along just fine with a make-shift WR corps for a few years anyway, and by picking back to back TE's. I have pretty much solidified that position for the next 4-7 years.
Hey, since you said that we get to use 20/20 hindsight, then I get to see that Jerry Porter becomes available in 2008, so I figure I can weather the storm until then.
I understand the Roddy White selection, but I guess I am a bit jaded on the whole WR position as a whole. It just seems like you can get these guys anywhere. A 3-Down TE? Now those are hard to come by.
Go heavy early.
