americus (8/6/2008) Asshat. I agree with one person who stated that Amtrak should sue the guy for damages. They lost 2 hours of time and whatever damage might have been caused by the truck. Stupid people should be accountable for their actions and if they cause a hardship on a company, the company should be able to sue the individual. Who knows why he did such an inarguably stupid thing, but his injuries will probably change his life. The train was two hours late, wow...how much more hardship do you want to pile onto him, if he lives? He is already paying a high price for his actions. Maybe he was stressed out, with people standing too close to him all day, or maybe his wife dumped him. If you were at the scene, I'd guess that you'd be grinding your foot into his head, in order to punish him further. Or maybe he's just an over aggressive driver who pushed the limits one too many times....

I think it takes a special kind of stupidity to try to beat a train. Especially going around 3 cars to do it.

I think it takes a special kind of stupidity to try to beat a train. Especially going around 3 cars to do it. It also looks like his timing was wayyyy off. The train collided with the front end of his car. Sounds like a good idea for a commercial about that engine performance liquid. "Hesitation when pressing the gas? Can't beat a train? You should have used Octane Boost."

But then they do say..... Birds of a feather...... It appears we're flying together, Dodo bird, because it takes an i d i o t's reading comprehension to think I was excusing what the man did. I'm just saying he's getting punished quite enough for his stupidity. Why pile on?

| | I think they should treat this type of offense exactly the same as they treat a DUI. Not only is a driver putting himself at risk, but he's also placing all the passengers on the train at risk, as well as anyone in the vicinity. His license should be immediately taken, and he should have to go through the same type of reinstatement process that DUI offenders go through, along with the hefty fine. I'm sure that anybody on the train could engage the driver in a civil suit if they chose to do so.

| If FBT was the man in that truck, the headline might read, "train critical after collision with FBT"
