I didn't think to watch Sportscenter this morning. How'd D6's Lions look? I read in the paper that they won with a FG, but that was pretty much all I got out of it. Any info will be appreciated.

I just saw them on NFL network. They were showing the replay of the preseason game last night against the Cowboys. That is one of the benefits of living close to work, lunch at home.

Hurry it may still be on!

My Prediction!

Porter will shock us all!!!

Thanks.

I don't have the NFL Network, so I can't check it out.

But again, thanks.

Gil and everything,   from a positive standpoint,   the passing game clicked.    All 3 QB's- Jon Kitna,  Dan Orlovsky,  and Drew Stanton performed well.    Calvin Johnson followed up an excellent training camp with a differential performance against the Giants.      Two of CJ's receptions were anything but routine.     Roy Williams broke a tackle on his TD reception.

Overall,   the Defense performed well.     Two young LB's,   Jordon Dizon and Buster Davis showed plenty of promise.    The same regarding a number of the young Defensive Lineman:   Ikaika Alama-Francis,  Cliff Avril,   Andre Fluellen,   and Landon Cohen.

On the negative side,   the running game was problematic.    Mainly because of the subpar running blocking.      A bright spot regarding the running game was Kevin Smith's performance.   His rushing stats were far less than stellar:   8 carries for 22 yards.     Yet,  he showed good awareness,   blitz pickup execution,   and the all around skills he has been demonstrating in practice.     Considering that the Giants clearly won the battle in the trenches against the Lions running game,   it's hard  to imagine Kevin Smith getting much more out of his 8 carries.       Artose Pinner was the only other Halfback who had a plus performance.       Tatum Bell not only is in danger of losing the starting RB job to Kevin Smith.   But if he doesn't pick up his performance level,   he could be cut.    Bell offers nothing on Special Teams.

David,

Thanks.

Myself, I've thought for a while that the biggest problem with the Lions is that they depend on their passing game, and don't go out of their way to develop their running game. That includes the concept of run blocking.

That was my biggest problem with the Jags during the Leftwich era. I thought that the O-Line was spending more time learning to protect their QB, and pass protect than they were learning how to block as an offense, especially in the running game.

I asked you last year ? about Mike Martz, and whether or not he would get pass happy as the season wore on. I was just trying to find out whether or not your offense would be committed to a more balanced offense.

Whatever happens, good luck this season to you and to the only other team that I capitalize on this MB, your Lions.

Nov. 9th Jags/Lions. can't wait. my team(Jags) vs my dads(Lions)..should be a good one with their passing game and our not so stellar pass defense.
