Man Arrested After Trying to Fill Up Car With Jet Fuel

SAN JOSE, Calif. —  A drunken man broke into a small airport and tried to fill up his car's gas tank with jet fuel, police said.

Police arrested Justin Rodebush, 20, on Sunday night for driving while intoxicated and attempted theft.

He probably wasn't trying to save money. The aviation fuel in the pumps used for aircraft and race cars, was going for $5.97 a gallon, accessed by a credit card, authorities said.

"We've had people try and steal gas here in the past," said Jim Meide, who works in operations at the county-run Reid-Hillview Airport in East San Jose.

Maybe he thought the jet fuel could make his car fly.

Family Guy did it!

(of course being a reference to South Park's "Simpsons Did It!")

JP-5 (the common jet fuel, the navy uses one with an additive suited for use at sea with an anticorrosive element, IIRC) is basically filtered kerosene, and isn't really different than straight kerosene you burn in a lantern with a wick and a glass chimney.  Some folks think it's super-fuel, but it's not.  Gasoline is much more volitile.

Pretty much spot on.

Higher octane fuel is actually harder to burn. JP-5 will work in a diesel engine, but not in a regular low compression gasoline engine.
