| Posted by Mike Florio on May 20, 2008, 1:06 a.m. Texans receiver Andre Johnson, who missed plenty of the 2007 season with a knee injury, will miss the rest of the 2008 offseason workouts after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on the same bum joint. “We went back and forth with the knee throughout the offseason,” coach Gary Kubiak said Monday. “It wasn’t feeling the way [Andre] wanted it to feel. So we tried to do some things, some rest and those types of things, to get it better. “He wasn’t really comfortable coming out of [mini-camp], so we said, ‘Hey, let’s go scope it and see if there are any issues. We want you to feel comfortable.’ Everything was fine. They cleaned it up. Now he feels good about it. He’s not going to be hurt by missing some of these reps, so we’ll just get him back to 100 percent and get him ready to go.” Johnson is expected to be at 100 percent by the start of training camp. “Yes, it’s a concern, but at the same time, injuries happen,” Johnson said. “You just have to do what you have to do to make those injuries better.” Johnson is signed through 2014, and there has yet to be talk of the Texans giving up on him. But it’s an issue that the team eventually will need to consider, if Johnson’s knee doesn’t get any better — or continues to deteroriate. Every time a knee gets “cleaned up,” there’s less cartilage left in it. And once the cartilage is gone, it’s fairly difficult for the guy to continue playing. per profootballtalk.com

| If this is a lingering problem over the next year the Texans will be hurting again. If he is healthy they could push for the number 1/2 spot in the AFC South, if he cant play they will be lucky to get off the bottom of it.

| | As of right now, I'm not too worried about it.......they should've scoped it after the season and not waited until now. The fact that they didn't is making me feel less and less confident about our training staff. It seems with issues like this they always come off looking like bumbling idiots. He had a severe sprain in week 2 last year and they just had him sit out and rehab it......then he finally came back (weeks after they said he would), the thing is, with those sprains, you can get loose particles of cartilage that float around in the knee that can cause inflamation and irritation.........they should of cleaned it up a LONG time ago. Oh, well.....here's hoping to a injury free year and no more issues with the knee. We actually have a Texan fan that's a M.D. who we get our medical info. from......he's a great resource to have on the board......here's his take on it. His board name is CloakNNNdagger.... To try to simplify the explanation as much as possible. The most likely scenario is that when you have a severe MCL/PCL strain/tear, you have some significant unnatural sliding of the joint surfaces at the time of trauma and subsequently due a period of joint instability, which can lead to breaking off of small particles of the apposing joint cartilage surfaces. These particles float around in the joint (much like medial meniscus injuries) and intermittently get stuck in and grind away at the joint surfaces, thus propagating inflammation and pain. The more vigorous movement (likely accelerated at minicamp), the more inflammation and the more pain. Until a "clean up" is performed, the chain of events are unlikely to cease..........in fact, they would be expected to worsen, despite intermittent periods of rest. That's my best shot at what's going on. He's had plenty of time to recover from his PCL injury. We must though keep in mind that depending on the original severity of the injury, he MAY be at increased risk for reinjury. But I think the residual "floating" cartilage is his present problem and, if these particles have not already created further major abrasive damage to the joint, with clean up scoping his chances for coming back quickly and to full speed is excellent. This is one full recovery which I have more confidence in actually happening. http://texanstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50443&page=3

As much as I hate playing against Andre the Giant you gotta love the effort and intensity he plays with. Through so many crappy seasons, teams, running game, QB play he is dominant every time he touches the ball. To me, AJ goes hand in hand with the way I see players the likes of Marvin Harrison and Dwight Freeney. Hate to play against them and get slammed by them but I love football and I love great football players who walk the walk and need no hype but even though they are so hyped it never gets to their heads. Here's to a healthy Andre Johnson. Let's stay classy AFC South |

| | As much as I hate to say this about a rival, I hope AJ turns out ok. He is one of the most electric WR's in the league, and is great to watch. If he has some swelling and soreness on Jaguar week, that would be ok though.

| Man. I like Andre Johnson. This knee is preventing him from being a top 3 WR in the league. I hate to see a young guys career go down like this.

| MuddmonsterT (5/23/2008) In May I am not worried about the knee. Ask me again in September.Yeah neither am I, from the sounds of it, this needed to be done to clear up all the issues he's having and if everything went according to plan (like it sounds) this should be a done deal.... Plus, watching Kobe (who had the same exact procedure) absolutely take the Spurs to the woodshed it gives me high hopes for the prognosis of his knee.

| Doesn't bother me now, but if he's 100% come season time, Shean and Co may be in for a long couple of games. Although I do feel a LOT better now that we have Drayton Florence.
