| | Vic kept hinting at CB being the BAP when our pick comes around. early on i think most us, well at least me, assumed he was talking about antoine cason. mostly because jenkins, DRC, and mckelvin would be gone by our pick. and the next two CBs on most lists were Talib and Cason. well now Vic has mentioned Justin King a few times. so if yall had to pick, which one would you take? I personally would go after Cason. King is supposedly the better athlete. Looking at their combine times, King was better in the 10,20, 40 yard splits. but Cason was actually better in the quickness drills. the big difference though appears to be on the field. Cason was a much more productive player. and King was repeatedly burned game after game last season. ive said before, but id be disappointed if we took King.

| this is Mandel's opinion...Defensive backOverrated: Justin King, Penn State King was one of those guys who came in with a big reputation out of high school and elicited a lot of excitement as a true freshman when Penn State used him in spot duty on offense and as a return man. No question the guy is fast, but I never understood the acclaim as a cornerback. In a game I covered in Happy Valley last season, Ohio State receiver Brian Robiskie basically did whatever he wanted against him. Ditto Mario Manningham in a game the two played their freshman seasons. Great athlete? Yes. Great cornerback? Debatable. And certainly not better than this guy ... Underrated: Antoine Cason, Arizona Four-year starter. Three-time All Pac-10 honoree. Fifteen career interceptions, including three touchdowns. And a signature, nationally televised performance last season against then second-ranked Oregon in which he scored on both a 42-yard interception return and a 56-yard punt return. I'm not sure you could ask for a more solid, consistent four-year career by a major-conference cornerback (Aqib Talib turned pro early), yet he's only considered a second-rounder, well behind a guy from Troy (Leodis McKelvin) and a guy from Tennessee State (Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie). What more did the guy need to do?

Penn State CBs absolutely suck.

| Do not sleep on Brandon Flowers, either, as a Jaguars CB prospect.
I don't care what his 40 time is, he is an athlete. He plays a Jaguars style of ball on defense, too. So I can see the connection there.
If we get Jason Taylor, I can see all of the possibilities being open, that includes Cason, Flowers, a defensive end like Lawrence Jackson, maybe even Calais Campbell...if he gets to #26, he I think he can be had @ #32 or a little lower just because the needs/styles of the teams following Jacksonville into the top group of picks in round 2...Gosder Cherlius, or others. If the need of defensive end is met, I can see a lot of things being opened up on draft day. |
