Dolphins GM slips and says "defense". I know that doesn't translate to much, but it seems they weren't getting any trade offers for the #1 pick when it was Chris Long or Dorsey up there and now they are repotedly getting some offers. Just a thought.

Dolphins | Ireland may have slipped in press conference
Thu, 17 Apr 2008 13:39:20 -0700

Jeff Darlington, of The Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland may have given some insight on who the Dolphins will select with the first overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft, or at least what side of the ball their draft selection is going to be playing on. When asked in an interview whether the team would draft someone with more upside than accomplishments Ireland responded with, "Of course I want guys who have great upside, this is the first pick in the draft," Ireland said. "This guy is going to be, you hope he's a pillar of your defense for a long time. Of course you hope he's going to have upside. The economics to me."

hand is all inside his helmet and chin, and his face is snapped back. I’m still in
stride and he is holding on for dear life. Posterized."

Knowing the Dolphins, having 2 guys named Long slated to go in the top 5 is confusing them.  Kind of like that ole Miami of Ohio concept.  Parcells must be freaking out down there.

Anyway, after last seasons post draft speech by the Dolphins GM in which he stated that "Ted Ginn has been a friend of our family for a long time in Ohio.  We didn't just draft Ted Ginn but we drafted his family as well."  Gee Thanks !!

Could be Vernon Gholston. I heard they were going to negotiate with him next if Jake Long did not pan out.

It will be Gholston. Big Tuna wants his Lawrence Taylor/Demarcus Ware.

I have heard (on the radio I think) that the Dolphins are negotiating with 3 players at this time: Jale Long, Chris Long, and Vernon Golston.  Whichever one is willing to sign for about 15% less than what Jamarcus Russell got last year, will be their pick.

All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Göring

The Dolphins are fishing for a trade down.  With Vernon Carey and, especially, Julius Wilson as their only OTs, the position must be addressed early.  Parcell also loves his running game and wants to protect his QB.  Ideally, he would love one of the first few picks to trade up to the one spot...he would get a starting OT and acquire value equal to another 1st and/or 2nd round selection.  If no one will give him the trade, then he will take his best OT on the board in Jake Long.
